Anderson Family Reef - 1200 Gallon System

Wow awesome shots and about the eel situation, I am not an eel expert but I have heard that the snowflakes tend to be least aggressive and somewhat passive when fed well. I dont know if they grow large but as stated before, just monitor him as much as possible and go from there. Lots of luck and keep those awesome updates coming!

Thanks Troy! I am happy with the progress and growth of the corals so far! We need to get your SPS rocking!!!

We do, and I'm struggling a bit right now. Had two very large birds nests die of suddenly this past week. Can't figure out why. Parameters are good although I do have a slight reading on Nitrates for the very 1st time in the tank. Everything else is good and stable where its always been. I am having an aptasia breakout and in both cases there were large heads of aptasia near the corals. ONly clue I have so far.

I may be home alone this weekend.... maybe a visit to your tank might be in order???

i looked threw the post and did not see what you were running for mh bulbs.

id love to have an eel. id be afraid he would eat my clowns.

how is the aggression between the tomato other clowns?

I have a few ideas that may help! You are welcome to come over anytime! We can brainstorm and review some best practices to keep your tank rockin'!!

I would like to come see your system as well!! Give me a call!!

I am running Radium, 20K, 400 watt MH bulbs.

The eel has been a model citizen so far. All fish are accounted for and have showed up for feeding time each night.

The only clowns I have now in the display are three black percs. They bullied the fourth one and I lost him/her last week.

Thanks for checking it out!

im switching to the same bulbs. im using lumantek switchable ballasts. i have 250w radiums on the outsides of the tank and a 400 radium in the center the 250's are kind of dim. the 400's are much brighter.

my tomato clown is in time out in the sump. i cant put him in the tank, he will kill my male percula.

Troy, hats off to you buddy! Your fish room is AWESOME!!! As is your show tank!!! The depth and aquascaping are amazing!!! Well done!!! Great to meet you as well! Compared to yours my fish room has a long way to go!!!

When you can break away from work I will introduce you to a few more Reef Rock Star locals!!! Can never have too many good reefer buddies!!!

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow!!!

Whoa!! Sorry for loss. What happened?

Went out of town for work and came back to low Alk in the holding bin. Didn't quite get the 750 set up fast enough... It was lame then but now all is monitored with an Apex and in a way more stable system! Those pictures were over the last few years. (Same Bali slimer colony)

That was a beautiful piece. Sorry for the semi loss. When you frag your pieces do you glue it directly to a rock when you replace them in the tank or place them on frag plugs?

Wayne I do both but prefer to glue them directly to the reef! Dr. Paul Whitby taught us how to glue your coral underwater to the reef and his technique works great. Here is what he does:

1) Put some super glue gel on your finger

2) Rub the super glue gel from your finger into the rock structure under water till it gets tacky

3) Add super glue gel to the bottom of your dry coral frag

4) Place coral frag with glue on to the tacky now white glue on the rock structure under water

5) Work the super glue gel on the frag into the gel on the rock till it takes

Ta da!!! Frag now glued under water right where you want it!!!

Thanks for posting, good info. Sorry about your loss. Just another reminder of how delicate our closed systems are. Glad to hear you have everything monitored with the APEX.

Curious how you are monitoring it?
