New to anemones, however i am interested in BTA's what do i need to know to properly care for this type of animal. I want to make sure that it will have the greatest chance of survival in my tank.

thanks in advance

Give some info about your tank, it will be a lot easier for us to help... like size, flow, lights, how long it's been set up, livestock, etc.

Good Luck with anemones!

Sorry the tank is as follows:

55g
T5 lighting 216w 2x54w flourescents 2x54w actinics
4 x powerheads...not sure what the rating, but enough flow for the tank....too powerful if opened up all the way. Bought tank used, but was set up for approx 2 yrs. Did a water change and good cleaning after the transport. Had a sabae, but i dont think it is going to make it. Want to make sure that this doesnt happen again. Doing some more research on anemone to get as much info as i can. Set up with approx 75lbs of live rock, torches, polyps, zoas, and shrooms. everything seems to be doing fine except the sabae.

water quality is as follows:
ammonia 0
salinity 1.023-1.025
alk 13
mg 1290
ph 8.3
nitrate 0
nitrite 0

thanks

Your salinity needs to be around 1.026. The fluctuation between 1.023-1.025 is really not to good for anemones. It sounds like your pretty new to reef keeping? If you are I would try to keep the tank as stable as possible for a while before trying another anemone.

I just got my first BTA and have been reading a lot on them lately as well. You'll want your temp to be at 80degrees as well, don't know where its at now though..

temp is right at 80...thanks for the info on the salinity....it isnt dead as of yet, but i removed it from tank and placed it in a bowl of its own under light....am hoping that it will recover...will avoid trying to feed it for a day to see if it will bounce back....when the lights are off it will tend to turn out. I did notice when the light was on that the tentacles were moving around, but were not inflated. am going to look to get a little water movement.

HOnestly, since getting mine about 5 days or so ago, it is exhibiting the same behavior. I put a powerhead as close as I could to it without being directly on it. It always seems to come out at night and hang out in a nook when the lights are on, not being fully exposed. It does "deflate" in the day time but I don't see it as a problem, just feeding mine one krill every 2-3 days...

the prognosis on the sabae is not good...i do not think it is going to make it.. it looks as if it is starting to decompose or something, but the tentacles do move around a bit but have not fully inflated for a couple days now....will be more cautious as to the type of anemone i purchase from now on.....hate to see such an awesome looking animal die
