Anemone for my 28 LED

Hi all,

After somewhat of a long time off, I am starting up a tank again. It will be a JBJ 28 LED. The main focus will be SPS, but I also want to get an anemone.

In my last tank (90) I had a few anemones over the course of many years, including bubble, carpet, and sebae. I had a maroon clown for over 5 years, and would love to get another.

So, my question is, in a smaller tank like a 28, which anemone should I try? I want to get a maroon clown, possibly 2, so something that hosts them would be good. Also, would like something that wont wander too much, although I know that is always a risk with nems. I like the rose bubble tips, if I get a small one would that work?

Thanks,
Marc

Bubble tip anemones are the least wandering/demanding anemones as far as I know. Im not familiar with 28 LED so I cant comment on that. Idk about two maroons in a 28 gallon tank though, theyre territorial and get big. Off the top of my head Maroons, tomatos, and clarkii clowns naturally host BTA. Perculas are hit or miss. My occellaris' were never interested in my rose.

I got to disagree here. They maybe less demanding but one of the anemone that wander the most.

Ive always heard different. Even the two BTA ive had, I put them in the tank and you would never know they have the ability to move on their own. Maybe its just me:hmm5:

Thanks for the suggestions. I will only start with one maroon, and possibly get another down the road. It depends on what other fish I decide upon, since I dont want too high of a fish load in the tank.

I think I will try the BTA and see how it goes, after the cycle is done.

This is the true statement, BTAs have the worst rep for wandering.
In that size tank, I would choose one or the other, nem or sps, cause I doubt you'll be able to have both w/out nem outgrowing or stinging.

They don't ALWAYS wonder. I've had an RBTA that moved for 1 day and has been in the same spot for 1 year. If they are happy they won't wonder.

Ok, so mixed response on the BTA. Also, with more reading I think the prevailing advice is that I should wait a while, even after cycle, before getting a nem.

Once water stablaizes, I think I will just start with the SPS and let them go for awhile before I think about an anemone. I have had both in tanks in the past, so I think they should be ok, but I understand it is a risk.

On the Sizing side, is a RBTA really ok for a 28? I will try to get a small one, but I know they grow. Is there a better choice for a small tank?

The issue (( at least what I had, and why I no longer keep BTAs )) is that the "mother" anemone just might stay put, but the clones will wander until they find a good spot.
