Anemone help-... Newbie

all-apologies

hey,

I am looking into purchasing an anemone for my tank. I would love for it to be able to (hopefully) host my 2 clowns (Ocellaris).

I was looking at just a regular buble tip anemone.

What is the deal with these guys. Ive been doing some reasearch but want to get opinions. Are they a pain to care for? Sucesses and faults?

I have also looked at a carpet anemone? a Haddoni Carpet Anemone perhaps.

How bout these.

I just tryin to figure out what i can do as a first timer------------------

Anything is appreciated...

thanks,

well your first thought needs to be lighting. do you have enough. then comes maturity and stability of your tank. the more stable the better as they are quite sensative to change

occelaris dont naturally host bubble tips, and from reading alot of people experiences it takes a long time to have them host in a bubble tip.

but.. bubble tips are the 'easiest' to care for.

once they find the spot they like they are relitively easy to care for, but until they do find a spot they are a bit of a pain. you'll need to block all your intakes so it doesent get sucked up. and it can sting alot of coral while moving about

feed it, keep your tank stable and good lights should keep it happy

ok -

i have (3) 150 wt halides with (2) 65 wt 50-50 pc's with (2) 40 wt actinics

i just bought a heat controller which i need to install soon. It will help with temperature fluctuations.

What anemone would you recomend for my clowns? anything?

thanks for your help,

btw it is a 6' 125 g tank. established 3months, but the livestock in it was moved from my older 100g tank. so its not 'brand new'

thanks

I think there's a sticky thread at the top of the nem/clownfish page that lists anemones and which clowns would host them naturally, you might want to give that a try. I would suggest some, but I wouldn't know with out looking either ;)

Most people suggest waiting for your tank to be at least 6 months old before adding the nem. We set up another tank, using some things from our first tank, but we're still waiting, just to be sure.

BTA's seem to be the most forgiving, and if you like the look of them that's probably not a bad place to start. There's a website that I've done some looking at by a lady here on RC, really good site, I just have to find it again. She's got pictures of how she's covered her intakes and other precautions she's taken. Good reading. Hopefully someone will know what it is, in case I can't find it again :)

lighting sounds fine. 6 months is a better starting point, but i think half the reason for that is so people can learn to get stability. heat fluxuations will need to be fixed as well.

heres an awsome site for understanding btas. but dont expect an occelaris to run to it
