Anemone Hetteractics malu Question

Just got my anemone three weeks ago, and have some questions. It seems to be doing well because it opens up very nicely everyday.

However, last couple of days it spit out the silver slides after a few hours. I try'd feeding it brime shrimp, and all it does is set it aside for the cleanup crew.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Try smaller pieces of silverside. The whole thing is just too big for most anemones.

Also, how often are you feeding it?

Yeah...IMO that's a bit too much. Cut down on the frequency and size of your feedings and see if that doesn't make it a bit happier :)

I've never had much luck with anemones, but decided to give it one more go around. The current anemone I was given is a record for me. Thanks for the help, and do you have any other ideas or tricks?

Any one know of a good source of info on this species? Looking for anything that will help. Maybe even reproduction habits?

H. Malu is one of the less common species I've read about, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help there. However, a lot of people swear by soaking their food in Selcon before feeding it to their anemones, or fish for that matter. Certainly can't hurt anything to give it a shot.

Do you have any pictures? I'd love to see what it looks like!

Hope this helps.

Yep...that's a Malu alright.

He's looking a little bleached, how much light have you got him under?

not a lil blieached. it is very bleached, i dont think you are feeding too much i would feed small peice of silverside soaked in selcon daily or about 4 times weekly.

how much light? what size tank?

When my Sebae anemone was bleached I fed it regularly. Try really chopping up the food so the nem doesn't have to work to hard to eat it. Also give it a variety of food something different at each feeding, the more variety the better. Soak the food in selcon or vita chem then feed it with a baster. Here's the different foods I use krill, clams, silversides, squid, and I''ll also mix in some formula1, or cyclopeeze as well every once in awhile.

I've started to mash a variety of different types of foods yesterday. Mostly brime shrimp, krill, silver slides, and cyclopeeze. Hopefully this will do the trick.
