Anemone ID please

it does look like a sebae and it is deffinatly bleached with regular feedings of finly chopped fish mussle clam and other meaty stuff he should retuers to his original color but tell ur friend that if he starts to see little brown patches appearing on it to not worry and be happy that he did somthing right and that its just reterning to its natural color

Heteractis aurora (not exactly sure what a "sebae" is since that name is used to refer to about 4 different species :) ) Yes, it is bleached. It is a sand anemone that needs decent bright light to thrive. Just to clarify the post right before this one - it needs bright light for its zooxanthellae to return. You can feed it all day long but if it doesn't have bright light it will remain bleached (and probably eventually die).

thanks bonsainut, i forgot the bright light part! btw where in oc are you?

the importers will most of the time put the anemones in dark containers for months to make sure they expell their zoxanthelle(sp?) and make sure they come out white and "pretty" and then sell them!

Thanks everyone! The LFS he got it from is a small shop run by a guy with 20+ yeras saltwater experience. So my friend was off his guard since he trusted him only to sell stuff that would work in his tank.. That won't happen again.

Now at least he has a good excuse to upgrade to a bigger tank he has been looking at.

Thanks again!
