Anemone ID please.

Dose anyone know what kind of nem this is? I put it on top of the rock and it went down to the sand bed, just sitting there and alittle bleached also.

It looks like an Atlantic long tentacle anemone...

The common names are condylactis anemone or atlantic anemone. Both of which are non-clown hosting.

ive personally witnessed a clown hosting a condylactis


its not so much the anemone that decided no hosting, its the colwnfish's instinct wouldnt recognize it as something to host, but then again clowns host many things, including powerheads and clams

This is a NON-CLOWN HOSTING anemone. They SOOO rarely host clownfish that they are considered non-clown hosting. They also never have been seen to host a clown in the ocean, because they are found in the Atlantic where there are no clowns.

exactly. there is no possible way for them to host clowns where there are none... but it doesnt necessarily mean clowns wont host them.

I don't recall seeing a Condy with a yellow mouth. I would not jump in the "its a condy" boat just yet.

Where did the anemones come from?
Any idea of collection site or what else came in with the shipment?

It would be great to get a few clear pictures of the column and maybe a few more of the mouth.

I just bought it last night as a condy from the mall, but it dosn't look much like a condy whe it got in the tank. The ends are more bubbly and no colored tips to it. The mouth isn't really yellow it was more of the camera playing tricks on us. The nem dose not look like the pic above. I have one in the tank that looks like that one and this is different.

Also the colom I can't get a pic of because it's behind the rock on the sand. The base is just white and kinda long for the size of the nem.

Give it a little bit of time, and watch it closely. Have you tried feeding it, and what? What are your water specs? I know that if you just got it and it was bleach(ed/ing) then, it may not be your fault, you can do your best to nurse it to full health, where it will be easier to ID.

Yeah I bought it that way. The tank has been set up for a year, and I already nursed one back to health and it looks great. I did just feed it a small piece of silverside, and it ate it in a hurry. water is

and I don't know what phos is because I can't get a reliable test.

I'm sure the water is good if the other nem is doing soo good though. Heres a shot of the old nem I got.

Condylactis frequently have round tips, especially common in the ones arriving as Haitian Anemones.

The column shot and description, etc., pretty much seal the deal for Condylactis species.

They are Non Clown hosting anemones, meaning in the wild they do not host clowns.....

They are also designed to catch food just like other anemones, and can eat clownfish if healthy enough.
