Anemone in overflow

So my bubble tip decided to go for a walk and relocate himself. after a few days of being AWOL. I noticed he had taken residence in the bottom of the overflow. I tried to get him out but his foot is stuck on pretty good. What should I do to get him back in the tank without killing him?

I would get a small pump/power head with a long rubber line attached to the output. Put the pump/power head in the tank and run the line straight to the anemone. Leave it there until it moves. They don't like the flow directly. It may just let go and start floating, at which point you can grab it and bring it back to the tank.

I had a similar problem with a rock anemone and the power head trick worked.

Good luck!

I was wondering of I block out the light if he'll decide to go looking for light, but I'm also afraid he'll be stubborn and starve to death

What is his foot in? When you say overflow I think of plastic and flat smooth surfaces. This is what I do to remove anemones from rocks. Get an ice cube and rub it in an edge of the foot, this should cause it to lift up a little bit, get your finger or credit card under there and slowly peel it off. The longer it sits in one place the harder it will be to remove.

He's in the bottom corner, foot is on the plastic and the glass, can't get my fingers under him. I'll try the ice cube. I'm starting to hate these 30" deep overflows

For what it's worth, if you starve it of light for a day or two it should go looking for light. Nems are fine for a while, a week won't harm them if they don't have light, but it will go looking after a day. BOTH of mine did when I was doing a tank blackout.

What if you pull your standpipe out so the water drains and it will suck him down into the filter sock

Dangit ......I love the way they look but I had one for about 2 weeks and finally got rid of him ....it would just walk all over and sting all my sps then it went into my mp40 that was a mess I finally gave up....no more anemones for me

I can see the ice trick working in combination with removing the drain pipe. This may force him to let go quicker, but I still think the best bet would be the powerhead with a long piece of tubing. I tried the ice myself for hours to no avail and the only thing that actually worked was the powerhead.

I pointed the tubing at the anemone, turned on the pump and he was floating in a couple of hours.

Sounds pretty hard to reach. +1 on the power head. Point it at the foot, and not too close to his mouth. After you get him out use some gutter guard or something so he can't get in there again.

I have rbta and gbtas for 5 years and they only ever move enough to get their own space. I guess I've just been lucky.

Yup I keep mine in floating tub in my tank.

:worried2:Mine are behaving "for the moment" but surely had my share of movement. Three have settled well, but lost one to the Vortech MP40 (Stew) and one I just removed and gave away. If I didn't have the Clarkii's that are "in love with" these guys would be gone for sure. I can tell you I am afraid to move any of my wave makers as I know it will result in "shift change". I don't know what to expect when I transfer to my new tank. Not really looking forward to that:worried2::fun5::sad1:
