Anemone Moves A Lot

I have a bulb anemone and when i got it i placed it high on the live rock to get the max light, and as close to the powerhead to get a large amount of water current. The temp in my tank is 80-82. Now it has moved next to the heater,so close as to touch it. Then it moved a day later under a piece of live rock. (and it looked all shriveled up like it was dead. Then it has moved to front of the tank out of the current, but still on the rock. Now it has moved once again to the area near the filter intake tube. My question is this; Is this normal for them to move so much in a matter of 4 to 5 days? The first few moves were only 4 - 6 inches but the last couple of moves have been aprox. 2 feet. I know they move, but i didn't think this much was normal.

When the conditions are right for an anemone it won't move.

Why did you have the powerhead so close to it? Odds are that is the main reason that it moved.

I was told by the LFS that should be in a high current area. It has now moved back close to where i origanally had it. My parameters are well in the safe range. Nitrate is about 10 - 20 but everything else is set. The LFS has even checked and said my tank should be where i need it for the anemone except for the nitrate. With small water changes i can keep that under control. Thanks for everyones input, i know the LFS never give enough info.

Is your filter intake tube covered? They can get sucked up into those. You can cut a block of foam and a hole in it to cover it. Hope it finds a place it likes soon! Mine wondered for 3 days until it found its favorite spot and hasn't left since.

Mine is still moving but not as much. Yesterday morning it was attached to the front glass. Now it is attached to the front of a rock and curls under and up behind the same rock. My tests are; 0 - ammonia, 0 - nitrite, After a 20 gal. water change the Nitrate is holding at less then 10 , 8 - Kh, 330 - calcium, 300 - Alk., 1.025 salinity, 8.2 - PH, and water temp. is 80* . The tank has been cycled for close to 8 months. My filter intake has the cone end with a course foam over it. It has been 7 days and i think it it liking the area because it isn't moving more then 4 - 6 inches at a time.

You may want to take a piece of PVC pipe and drill holes in it to cover the heater. The anemone can get burnt. Do you have MH lighting? In my experience they wander less under MH.

What I did was drill or chisel a hole in the rock for the anemone to put it's foot inside to feel secure then it stopped moving and place it where I want.

I moved the heater and it hasn't been near it since. So i'll see if it goes near it again. I don't have MH lights. I have aprox. 230 watts of lighting.
