Anemone Not Looking So Good

I have a nice red long tentacle anemone. I've noticed over the past few months that the anemone has gotten progressively smaller. It used to be very happy and quite large, I'd say about 3/4 of a foot or so. Now it's only large enough for my clarkii clownfish to swim in a little circle.

I'm wondering why this has been happening? I haven't been feeding the anemone which may be a problem but I'm not sure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well clarki can be very hard on there host and cause problems, one might be the clown rubbed the LTA againist the rock and hurt is foot or oral disc ( not likely but can happen). Or the LTA is just not happy either with the clown or water quiality issue ( which you might want to post befor some asks you to). Try to keep your clown out of it and try to feed it. If it still takes food and the is no eviedence or any kinda damage to the foot or oral disc then it will recover if water pramas are with in reason.

Me personally have seen my clarki love 2 RBTAs close to death before I transferred them to another tank.

I do recall having to pull the anemone off a rock when I rearanged my live rock. I may have hurt it's foot then? If I did hurt it's oral disk would it ever be able to recover or would it continue to suffer?

It's rather unfortunate for us. I'm not so sure if my anemone has a foot injury however. In anyone's experience does feeding your anemone help and if so how often do you feed?

Odd that you had to pull it off the rocks, since LTAs, M. doreensis are sand dwelling anemones. Plus, red LTAs are very very rare. Any chance of getting a pic?

What size tank?
What lights?
How long has it been set up?
What are your water parameters? (( with numbers please ))

I tore my RBTA foot real bad after it moved from a location that my wife didn't want it. After I butchered it's foot trying to move it, nesseled it between a couple of rocks and left it alone for a couple of days. It looks fine now.

Yeah. The anemone was attached to the rock under the sand and now it's just attached to a rock right by the sand.

My tank is a 37 gallon (30'' long, 17'' high, 12'' wide) reef tank and has been running almost two years now. My lights are 4 ATI T5 bulbs in an AquaticLife fixture.

My water parameters are:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 0 ppm
Phosphate: 0 ppm
Calcium: 430 ppm
Kh (alkalinity): 10

BTA's and LTA's are very diferent in their rebound and regeneration capacity. Where a bta will heal in a week, an lta may take a month, and possibly will never heal if the injury is to the foot.

salinity, temp, ph? do you have any fluctuations or inconsistencies in these? For instance, not having an ATO and doing it manually will create inconsistencies on salinity unless you are on top of it religiously.

I tap off my water my self and I never have major fluctuations at all. My temperature probably changes about within 1.5 degrees over the course of 24 hours. My Ph is low however at 7.8. I'll also try to get a pic up here soon.
