Anemone selection.

CU kills

Okay I am ready to take my tank to the next level. I want to go from a 10g nano FOWLR to a true nano reef. I want to add a host anemone for my 2 perc clowns. But am not sure which kind to get. The tank has been running for over a year with livestock. I am takeing a water sample to the LFS for accurate testing, but my test show; PH. is 8.2, Ammonia is at 0ppm, Nitrates & Nitrites are also at 0ppm. I dont have a phosphate test instock because it has not been a problem since after I cycled. Because the tank is so shallow my lighting is very intense with the T-8 10000K and the moon lights. The turnover in the tank is 310gph with the powerheads and filtration creating a very realistc tidepool wave effect. The only other inhabitants are; 3-5 hermits (not exactly sure some of them hide in the caves in my LR), 1 Mexican turbo snail, 1 brown serpent star, and various hitchhikers. 20lbs of LR, 2.5 to 3.5 inch LS DSB not sure what the exact weight is. Thanks in advance for any help.

sadly your tanks to small to support any of the true host anemones.

you might want to look into finding a suitable surrogate coral for them.

or you have a good excuse to upgrade to a bigger tank :D

I am going to upgrade, but not for about a year. I have to wait until my FW fish die of old age. The youngest on is nearly three years old with a 4-5 year lifespan. Or I can find them a good home. What would be a suitable coral?

My test kit must be out of date or contaminated. The PH, nitrate and ammonia were the only accurate tests. My nitrites were off the charts. Over 160ppm. Going to have to get that down quickly and safely. Looks like lots of water changes for me. I procured a new test kit specifically for SW. Will post results in a few days.

You sure your nitrites are that high? Not your nitrates? I would be very surprised if it were your nitrites.

It was nitrates not nitrites. Also I just tested with the new kit and the original results were correct. PH 8.4, Nitrites 0ppm, Nitrates 0ppm (tested twice), Ammonia 0-0.25ppm. Maybe there was a contaminate in the container I used, because I tested the water from it and had the same result as the LFS. I washed it out but still. the rest of the tests were performed directly from the tank. At least I was low on test supplies any way. Now I have test for each of my tanks.
