Anemone Spawning

Couple hours after the lights were off, I caught my anemone spawning. Poor fish, he’s confused and don’t know what’s going on. LOL

Now, time for a water change in the middle of the night. Ugh :hmm3:

Mine has done that several times in a 12g nano. I freaked out the first time because the tank was pretty cloudy and did a 50% water change. The second time it happened, I was on my way out to something very important and didn't have a choice but to chance it. When I got home, water was clear and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. However, all I have in the tank are RBTAs and two ocellaris clowns so not sure if it would've been more catastrophic if the tank was full of corals or more sensitive fish/inverts.

I’m actually still contemplating if I should do WC or not. LOL But I did a saltwater mix just in case, just warming it up. I already replaced my GAC though.

Cool! I've never seen that with any of mine yet.. hopefully I don't get a spawning event with like 15 Rbta and a red haddoni in there. Won't they trigger all to spawn at once?

Oh wow, thats a lot, and yes, I've read somewhere that they spawn like within 15 minutes when they sense others are spawning. Your tank will look like you dump gallons of milk if 15 of them spawn all at the same time.

very cool! I had a green bubble tip have eggs in the tips, did not see them released though

Yours is probably female if it released eggs, and not just sperms (thick smoke looking thingy)

Female RBTAs release a lot of milky white substance along with the eggs. Yes, the tank can look like it was filled with milk.

Did you have to do WC with that much cloudiness?

No, I didn't. Keep in mind, this was back in the mid-90s, and I was still fairly new to reefing. I hoped I would get some fertilized eggs, but all the anemones in the tank were from a single clone, so a single sex (I learned later).

I had a sketchy skimmer, and a small fuge in the back of the tank (in an area that had been the bioball area). I was more concerned about the oxygen levels in the water with all the organics, so I made sure I had plenty of surface agitation.

The white specks on the tank wall were eggs, as are the the spots in the second picture.
