I think if it were more common, you'd get more feedback.
My opinion, if you're going to do it, why not quick and easy?
I can't imagine trying to get a rubber band around one of my monster nems, or a nem wrapped around a big rock to be an enjoyable, or practical exp.
I'd cut it(BTA only) or better yet just feed a lil heavy if you're not in a hurry.
I was going to cut it, but it has to be perfect, like cleaver *chop* clean. If theres any imperfections theres a good chance for infection. With the rubberband anything i do wont give it infection... ill try a little later this month and post results.
I saw a guy in YouTube cut his rbta and put it back in the tank, but he also didn't show if it lived or died. So I just think it died.
My rbta never wanted 2 split either so I just gaves up but then one day it split on me unexpectidly. I think u should just let it split on it's own. I don't think I would ever take a chance in cuting it especially if it cost me more then a 100 bucks. Lol
I've seen many times the razor blade trick, quick and easy, but yes, there is always risk.
The most risk free IMO is to feed heavy, thus inducing split, but that takes a bit of time.
Make sure to post pics however you decide, and good luck.
They will also split from injury. If one gets under a fallen rock it will split to free itself.
If one gets into an intake and is not to badly torn up it will split in order to save itself.
