Anemone type

It is a blue carpet anemone and no it shouldn't be dyed. They are quite common at LFSs my LFS has 4 in right now. The ones that are rarer are the green tipped carpet anemone. They are black with neon green tips they run from $90-$115.

It actually looks like it might be died...it's hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the mouth and oral disc have a uniform blue color, which to me just doesn't look natural.

I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in.

Mitch - A black anemone with green tips? I'd be interested in some pictures, I've never seen a black anemone before.

From liveaquaria.com's pictures the one in that photo is a assorted carpet anemone. I was wrong in my first post. This is a blue carpet

I wouldn't buy it looks like it has been dyed. I have had experience with anemones for 4years. It will most likely lose it's color after a couple months. The most commonly dyed anemone is the yellow african anemone also refered to as a sebea anemone. They take the true white africans and place them in a home made or commercial dye for a period of time. I would stick with your LFS anemones or off of a trusted website IME liveaquaria.com great luck.

The pictures are pretty small, but I think it might be S. Gigantea.

They're very difficult to keep, and if it IS dyed, that will make it a lot harder.

I have had experience with anemones for 4years.

Hobby Experience: 4-5years with freshwater aquariums and 2 years with saltwater aquariums.

One of these two statements is wrong, unless you managed to find a species of freshwater anemone.

I used to take care of my freinds anemone tank for 2years because he was always gone and didn't know how to take care of it. He had a 45g anemone aquarium. Then the other two years I have a 50g anemone aquarium.( I couldn't fit that aquarium under my aquarium description.

And from your qoute I just listed my aquarium experience from what I owned.

Lately you seem to be attacking every thing I say.

Just looking for some clarification, and this is why:

You're posting contradicting information/opinions. Maybe you changed your mind, and that's fine, but the inaccurate/incorrect information you've posted here is misleading. Furthermore, "carpet" anemone doesn't help to establish the care requirements of a particular anemone. There are at least 5 species that I can think of off the top of my head that are commonly referred to or mislabeled as carpets, and all have differing requirements.

...They take the true white africans...

No photosynthetic anemone is a "true" white. A white anemone is bleached and unhealthy.

Yes I know but most LFS lable them as "White African Anemone" or "White Sebae Anemone"

I'm sorry, I have been a little unclear. We are now clear right:) Sorry about the miss understanding.

That's an opinion there are Long Island sound anemones that are white...

Sorry, edited after you had posted. Statement should be less generalized now.
