Anemones in my outdoor tank!

I decided that when I moved to Florida I wanted to have a tank that was outdoors. The anemones and corals LOVE the sun!

I had to add a lot of Astrea Snails to control the algae, but other than that and a massive chiller, I haven't had any problems. Hopefully it keeps going in the right the direction.

There is a AI 26 also that I use for night time lighting when the sun goes down, but the anemones are half the size when the sun goes down. Same with my hammer and frog spawn. Really the only things that stay nice are the Zoanthids.

Awesome, can you share more photos of your setup? How do you control salinity? I assume you have a full top on the tank? If that is the case, is it hooked to a sump for gas exchange?

It's not as magical as it sounds. I still have it under an awning out in the pool area. It would have to be a huge storm for rain to get in the tank, and then we have mechanical storm barricades that come down (never had to use them). It's just the ideal spot because it still gets full sun for about 5-6 hours everyday. The indirect ambient daylight still has a par reading of 220.

The tank does have a full top on it has a about a 1/16th inch gap around it. Just to keep bugs out and fish in.

The sump is open.

I don't have to deal with salinity issues because like I said, it doesn't get rained on.

Evaporation doesn't seem to be any bigger of a problem than I had with an inside tank. Obviously temp is a huge issue and I have a 1/3HP Chiller to maintain the temp. Has no problem.

Like I said, the light is an AI 26. I run it from about 6pm - 10pm...

That's the blue "Moonlight" that seems to look radio active in the pictures. Not sure why. The rest of the lights don't start coming on until 4pm.

The roses are all clones. They started as one in my big tank. There's also a green bubble and a long tentacle. So 5 I guess... The bigger Rose might split again soon.

Great question.... I have no idea. When I first set the tank up, I caught a bunch of those in a tide pool at the beach. They've been in the tank ever since. I have no idea what they are, but all they eat is Algae. No joke. They clean the tank everyday. They even take the Algae off the glass. They are AWESOME! I wish I knew what they were because I would package them up and sell them to everyone.

10... They've been together for a long time. Some of them for years. The 3 little ones are new.

Unfortunately, without knowing what they are, I don't know how big they will get, what they will eat later, if they are reef safe, etc, etc, etc... They could be black tips for all I know..

They look like babies of something bigger. Maybe post a couple close-up pictures of them in the Reef Fish section to see if anyone knows what they are.
