Anenome in a reef tank?

In a 12g, within a year, the BTA will be the only thing in the tank since it'll be so huge.

I concur. I have an RBTA in my 12g. It is about 8-9" diameter. Pretty well shades most of the tank and of course took over the top so keeping stonies in there is pretty off limits. I have two small sps frags, but I can't keep them up toward the light so they don't grow much.

Mushrooms, zoos, etc grow fine as they don't need as much light and are on the bottom away from the anemone.

(It is moving to a 36g in a few weeks. )

I have heard it said (or seen it typed) that in nature, anemones are rarely found near other corals. I used to live in SE Asia (malaysia specifically), and we frequently took boat trips out to a small chain of islands about 20-25 miles from our island to snorkel. The species of anemone I am not sure of but Amph. Ocellaris were hosting them and they weren't carpets (it was a long time ago), my guess would be magnifica?

Anyway, these were usually deep (for a snorkeler, so 8-15' down) in the water and well away from other cnidarians that I could see. I won't argue that an anemone won't survive in a mixed reef, but I am going to keep mine in a species only tank, hopefully duplicating one small patch of reef from nature.

interesting...thanks for sharing...wish i can go diving myself too.

I've never had problems keeping my Rose Anemone in my SPS dominant tank. I've found that if you position them such that they are getting good flow and light and feed them every couple of weeks, they'll be too happy to move. Mine has been a nice source of income for me. Split-- sell half, split-- sell half, etc. Because of this, I've enever had to worry about him getting too big and encroaching on his neighbors.

Yes I have a large system. Yes I keep my BTA secluded and happy on the opposite side of the tank as my SPS. Yes I have a 'firewall' in the middle of the tank that my BTA's don't like to cross (no rock canyon).

Seems like you've taken the necessary precautions to keep your anemones safe.

You are an exception. Most people don't take these precautions. Calfo's advice was exactly that. Most anemones that are in constant contact with stinging corals will always be battling and usually results in the death of corals or anemones.

Please don't try to "debunk" WWM when you take their advice. You practically have a species specific area setup in your tank. Don't see how Anthony's advice is antiquated based on your setup. And please, try not to give advice to someone to add a RBTA with other corals in a 12 gal. !
