Anenome newbie question

OK New to anenomes....I have too clown fish (The not so true version) and want to add an anenome to my 75 gallon. I have the T5 lighting with 5 54w bulbs.

I believe that I can get a Bubble anenome to thrive in this tank. Does anyone have some opinions on what kind a anenome I can and should get for my tank??

Thanks for the info!

Pierre

the tank needs to mature before it can support a anemone.

a BTA would probably be your best bet, look for a clone from another hobbist.

what type of clown do you have? and what other tank mates are in the 75g?

BTAs like a moderate flow and lots of rock work.

Bencozzy,

I have 2 Ocellaris, 1 Blue hippo tang, 1 Coral Beauty Angelfish and one Scooter Blenny.

I have 90lbs of live rock, crushed coral.

I have a Fluval 405 Canister Tank, and Remora Pro C HOB Skimmer, and a Hydor Korelia 4 powerhead.

thanks for your help

everything looks good.

maybe add another hydor.

not sure about the coral beauties compatability??

how are you liking the fluval? just asking since in reef tanks the tend to make a nitrate problem unless they are maintained pretty consistently.

how long has your tank been setup?

your welcome

My tank has been setup for about 2 months now. Had the live rock in from day 1, cycled the tank with the rock. Was is good now...No amonia, 0 nitrite and 10mg/l of nitrate...

Will be doing a 25% water change Tomorrow...

So far I like the fluval, I clean it every month so far...

I have been pretty anal when it comes to cleaning my tanks...I clean the glass every day, and top off every 2 days. Once a week I do about a 20%-25% water change on both tanks (20g freshwater and my 75g saltwater)

I read alot of books and the one consistent message was that more water changes was better than less...

I also wonder about the Coral Beauty Angelfish's compatability but my LFS has a really knowledgeable salesperson, and he said that it normally would not bother an anenome...

You should wait at least four more months before adding an anemone. They need the stability of a well established system to fluorish.

stdenpi1 I have a LTA with 2 clowns and a coral beauty in my tank. The coral never has bothered the anemone, but also with hosted clowns anybody gets to close they go on the defensive.

Slakker,

I can wait that long...You know the saying...nothing good ever happens fast in a saltwater tank...Thanks for the tip...

VengefulNemesis,

Thats good news...I really did not want to risk an anenome if the Beauty would go after it...the beauty and the hippo tang are pretty much always swimming together ...its pretty cool to watch...And my Scooter blenny is funny...my 2 boys called him SWEEP since they say he looks like a small broom...

For now, I'll keep monitoring the tank for a few more months and then I will get the anenome...Are bubbles the hardiest?

Thanks again for all your help!

Pierre

BTA's are generally accepted as the hardiest of the hosting anemones, yep. It might be worth the effort to try and find a clone from another local reefer rather than buying one that's been through the stress of collection and shipping, too.
