Do anenomes totally withdraw inside themselves or does this mean something is wrong with it?

They do occasionally withdraw, but I would not expect them to do it for long periods of time. PH swings can bother them in a smaller tank.

If by withdrawal you mean deflated, it happens and usually within 1/2 a day it will have reexpanded.

mine that over a foot wide will shrivel up and withdraw ti about 6 inches across every now and again...Totally normal to me..

All of my anemones that I've kept over the years have done it at one put or another --- Haddoni carpets, LTAs and BTAs. For the most part it is normal for them to do that once in a while. Now it is starting to happen all the time, would be a bit concerned.
