Angel fish issues

Is there special requirements for angels. I've tried several and they die on me. the longest I've had one is about 6 months. Shortest is a day. I've had this system for around 7 yrs. Monday I picked up a nice healthy looking Elibi that was eating in the store. Monday he seemed fine yesterday he was hiding more. Today it was staying behind my rocks and when he did get to where you could see him he appeared to be twitching. Any information would be appreciated. I have2 true percula a green chromis that I've had for years with no issues.

I'd recommend quarantining the angel first and medicate him if he shows any irregular signs. I always do a fresh water dip as well. Also get him to eat well before adding to DT because my angels are always shy at first. I've noticed a good way to keep my angels alive long term is a good diet. Spirulina, nori, mysis, ocean nutrition flakes, spectrum pellets, and angel formula with sponges in it is what I feed mine. Hard part is getting them to get it first so that's why I say quarantine them and make sure they're eating. Mysis is my go to food to get the fishes appetite up (how I got my regal angel and moorish idol to start eating). Other than that I don't know what else besides avoid any stress and keep good water parameter? Good luck

Oh, and my angels like picking at live rock but it seems you already have a well established system. Do you have any sponges growing on the live rock? Do your angels die because they wither away or is it because of sickness? I'm curious because I haven't had a angel die on me

I don't have a quarantine tank. I have brine shrimp with spirulina enriched in it. I'm not sure I've had them die early and to around 6 months. Appeared to be healthy but none were really good eaters.

Now i am by no means an expert in this matter. But i have a Coral Beauty and she took about a day before she started darting around the tank eating and food i threw in there. What size tank and what are your water parameters?

Also, what exactly are you feeding them. I still dont have everything i should be feeding my angel. But the list that findingnemo7 provided seems a fairly common mixture of food for all angels. Good luck.

Most angels need to be treated for flukes when they arrive. Prazi pro is good for this.

They also need to eat more than enriched brine shrimp - if this is all that they ate, they likely died at six months from malnutrition. Perhaps you feed more stuff, but PE Mysis and New Life Spectrum pellets should be a staple in every angel diet IMO.

+1 the twitching you described is a common symptom of flukes, which angels are quite susceptible to.

I would also agree that nutrition is a factor here. Mysis, seaweed, NLS, formula one, and angel formula are all good choices for angels. It's good to soak frozen foods in Zoe, selcon, and/or vitachem for an additional boost a couple times a week. If you ever want to treat your angels, clam on the half shell is like candy.

I have omega one brine shrimp with spirinula , mysis shrimp and flakes marine cuisine. So far its stopped twitching and is swimming around again.

Angelfish dont have more of a requirement than a Tang or most other fish etc... the problem seems to be your lack of quarantine to any new fish . theres obviously some type of parasite in your DT thats killing your fish such as flukes. Now some fish are more prone to these parasites than others but that said , all fish should be qt for at least a 4-6 weeks before introducing to your DT otherwise youre throwing you money away . In order to eradicate the parasite from your Dt you have to leave it fallow for 6-8 weeks or you can treat the dt which i doubt especially if you have inverts.

It's doing much better today at least it's coming out and swimming around. It's appearance is fine it's breathing normal not twitching. I think I will have to get rid of my chromis though it was picking on it. Just have to catch it.

Pretty sure your angel has flukes. Not very long ago, i bought a flame angel and had to treat it with Prazipro. I'm sure that if i hadn't done that, it would have slowly died. I was glad i had put it in a quarantine tank.
