Angelfish Experts??

I am contemplating setting up a fowlr for mainly angelfish. I have plenty of tang experience but never had any angels due to my sps. Question is can a guy keep multiple different types of large angels together? Do angels prefer long tanks over tall?

Yes. Given big enough tank. Stay away from really aggressive stuff like queens and you'll be fine. Majestic annularis gold flake asphur. Don't do emperors till the end.

I am thinking around 225-240. The place I have is limtited to 6' long tank or have also given thought to a cube. I know tangs prefer length for swimming. Is this a concern for Angels as well?

Length will keep the fighting and territory issues at bay.

Can mix with some dwarf Angels also.

I don't know how mixed your reef is but the Angels won't bother your sps in reef either.

Well , I have it all in there. I just had always thought angels were coral eaters so I didn't research them much.

Fleshy stuff they will eat. Not hard sps.

You can add genicanthus angels to your existing reef. They are open water feeders and will leave all your corals alone.

If your tank is well established and mature you can add a variety of the dwarf angels. Most of them really like to hunt for food amoung the corals and while may occasionally nip at a coral won't actually devour a coral.

I've had Goldflake angels in my reef tanks with all sorts of corals for the last 10 years without any major issues.

If you are looking at the larger angels - Imperator, Koran, Chrysurus, Cortez, Navarchus - Then a second tank would be a safer option. I had a 6x2x30" tank with a large collection of tangs and angels for many years.

I have an 8-9" Emperor in my 265 with a 3-4" majestic and a flame angel and 4 tangs and they all get along just fine. Occasionally there is a power struggle when I give them purple algae, but for the most part they all live together without bothering each other. Also, they tend to leave the coral alone. Only my Emperor will nip at my acans and after a few days he tends to leave new colonies alone.

Yeah , I like the larger angels. I appreciate the info. I will look into a longer rather than taller tank, I am thinking I am gonna ditch the 28 nano I feel weird having such a small goldfish bowl.LOL! How often are you guys changing water on a fowlr tank? I would assume with a good skimmer you could stretch them out a bit longer than a reef tank.

Well u wouldn't. But in theory nitrate and phosphate aren't issues. Get a great great skimmer
