Angels and Anemones

I'm interested in hearing first hand experience with this.. Specifically with the centropyge angels. Thanks!

Personally have seen both a Bi-color and Lemonpeel go after S. Haddonis. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues -- Flame, Potters, Coral Beauty, Multicolored, Nox, Flameback, and venustus.

Never had any issues with dwarf angels going after the host nems I have kept over the years. I did have a flameback go after aiptasia and mojano's like crazy however.

Interesting. I'm sure their ability to sting would-be offenders helps here. I'm looking to add maxi-minis and possibly a haddoni in the future, but I have a Rock Beauty (fat, healthy, active, eating frozen foods).

I've asked the same question at my LFS (AquaSD) and they said that Nems and Dwarf Angels should be fine together. Haven't tried myself.

Hope my angels will have the appetite for the mojanos soon, getting tired of kalking them.

I've never kept any nem besides my LTA's but I've never had any of my angels large or small bother them and I have kept several centropyge, pomacanthus, Apolemichthys, and Chaetodontoplus. My asfur was literally the only fish I ever saw take a nip and that was literally a single incident.

I really like the maxi-mini's too and was wondering if my current meredithi, majestic, or blueline would bother it. None of these fish even looked at my LTA but the Maxi-minis are so small and my majestic could probably rip one to shreds in seconds if he got a mind to.

My Potters picks at my Purple LTA all the time and he is on his way out. I don't think he does any damage but I'm not willing to risk either one of their lives.

I have had a Potters in my tank with maxi minis, a haddoni, and a LTA since Dec (almost 6 months.) I haven't noticed the Potters bothering anything.

I have kept quite a few large angels (emp, blueface, majestic, asfur, meredithi) with my LTA and have never had a problem.

be careful. i saw a large angel in an aquarium in a hotel once literally eating chunks of a large gigantea. can try to find video for type of angel, but it was crazy to watch.

I have kept dwarf angels with all types of anemones and can't recall ever having a problem. Certainly they never killed an anemone.

I have not kept large angels because I have never had the 300+ gallon tank necessary.

I have a mature Emperor Angel, and a hawaiian flame angel in with my large BTA. Been in there for.....4 years or so. No problems whatsoever. It is hosted by 2 true percs, and the female is bold enough to nip my arm if it get close to it, so maybe she scares him off. The Emperor is the king of the tank however.

Anyone else have experience?

Most smaller (Dwarf) species are detritivores and while many larger angels have a specific item they prefer, most can be classified as omnivores. When a coral or anemone becomes stressed it releases copious amounts of slime. To many angels this is like candy to a child. Whenever adding a new anemone or coral to an established tank, the hobbyist should provide a cover like a plastic strawberry container until the specimen has time to adapt.

I have had several species of dwarf and larger angels in numerous tanks with anemones; I have never had an issue.

Good luck...
