Angels in reef tank

Hi everyone, I am a new member looking for advice. I was wondering if anyone could advise about adding angels into a reef tank. I have a 150 with a naso, powder blue, and 3 yellow tangs. Also copperbanded BF, mandarin goby and cleaner shrimp. For corals, star polyps, zoos, mushrooms, ricordias, toadstool and brain coral. I have seen others with blue faced, blue girdled, emperor and flame angels. Do they work, or will the angels pick at the corals. I was also thinking of adding clams at some point. Please advise.

My Majestic (aka Blue Girdled) has never picked at anything, but there are plenty of corals I don't have, e.g. open brains, etc. I don't have any clams either. Still...so far so good. I would say its risky no matter what you pick but IMO these beautiful fish are worth it.

I agree, they are beautiful. I am just nervous about the other fish picking on him, hopefully if I get a large enough one he will rule the tank. So he does not go after zoos or toadstools?

I had a Lamarck's (Genicanthus lamarcki) angelfish in my old 100 gallon. Great angel, never picked on anything.

Nope...he sometimes picks at stuff that's fallen in there, but that's about it.

Genicanthus angels are reef safe. They are hardy and active swimmers too. Here is a good article on them.

Dwarf and large angels are a risk. Some are riskier to soft/hard coral, but it depends on the species and even the individual.

Your star polyps and zoos are probably on the list to be eaten. If you have an open brain it maybe in trouble as well. The leathers, ricordia, and mushrooms should be safe with pretty much any angel.

Myself I have an emperor, majestic, flagfin, singapore in my reef, but I only keep sps, mushrooms and a leather. Anything meaty (ie open brain, lps) and stuff like zoos are usually on the no no list for large Angels.
So for your coral list: star polyps, zoos and brain coral. Consider high chance of being eaten.
My thought is what is more important to you.
