Angels....

I want to get some opinions on adding an emperor angel to a tank that has an Asfur angel. Will the two get along or fight? THe tank size is a 180 with about 200#'s of rock. Thanks for your feedback. BILL

you really arent suppost to put any two angels together from what i have heard

I know but they also say you are not supposed to put tangs together. I would like to see if anyone has done it.

Angels are far more aggressive with each others versus tangs. And know one says you cant put tangs together; you cant put certain species with each other due to body shape For example; yellow and purple tang cant be together but you can put 3-4 yellow tangs in the same tank if big enough. As juvies I think you could get away with it. When they begin to change into adults is when you will have issues. Good Luck on what ever you decide to do; a 180g gives you many options..... cheers

I know what people say about tangs. However in my 180 I have a sailfin, 2 - hippos, and 2 yellows. You would think that based on the body type that the yellow and the sailfin would not get along. But they do.

I guess no one has 2 angels in their tanks?

I thought you had a gray angel? I had three angels in a 55g QT tank at one point. It can be done but you have to keep an eye out for trouble, also if the emp is smaller then the established asfur, I'm sure he will get picked on. Your going to need to upgrade eventually too, emps and sailfins get huge.

Yeah well something happened to the gray....Not sure what happened to him. I was really sad......I added some rock to the tank and never saw the gray again. Not sure if he got buried with the new rock or what. I really liked that fish it was a tough time when I noticed he was missing.

I have had two angels in the same tank for about 9 months (emperor and majestic). So far, they get along better with each other than any other fish in the tank. They spend most of their time following each other around and I don't think they've ever fought. However, I do NOT expect it to stay this way. I am waiting til I have to get a 150 gallon to separate the two of them once they start fighting. The majestic is fully changed, and is about 4 inches long. The emperor has started to change and is about 5 inches long, to give you an approximation on age/size. You can put them together, but definitely be prepared to find one of them a new home at a moments notice if they begin to despise each other.

Ya just get them and be ready to seperate them if they do start fighting. I've heard sucess with tangs and angels kept together. I have had a yellow, purple, and sailfin in a 125g and they fought. Then I removed the yellow and the other tangs stayed fine until my purple died.

I have multiple angels. Currently, Chrysurus, Swallowtail and Emp get along fine. In the past, I have passer and maculosus try and kill each other one day after getting along great for almost a year.

It can work, but it might not. I would have a place to heal a wounded fish if you need it.

Can it be done? Yes.

Does it always work? No.

It is more of an art than science. It depends on when you introduce who, size difference, color difference, etc. Best to add smallest least aggressive first and then larger more aggressive. QT everyone first. Keep them well fed. Lots of rock for hiding. Lots of room to swim. I personally like the 8' tanks, or longer.

If the emperor is slightly smaller than the asfur and the asfur is on the aggressive side then you might have issues.

I would really like a large adult color Emperor but I want to buy it from a local hobbiest not a store. That makes it real hard to find one.

I'm on the same boat, i'm looking for a large emperor also.

But first got to get an Asfurs, couple of stores i called local to us have them in stock but very small. I've got a 3.5" regal right now and plan on asfur next, then adult emperor. But it might be better for me to add a smaller asfur with the regal.

you can put more than one angel in a tank if they are from a different genus.....like centropyge and pomocanthus etc...... cant put two from the same genus......they will fight

Asfur and emporer are both from the pomocanthus family...it could be an expensive mistake......try introducing them both simutaniously......

Thanks for the responses. I already have the Asfur in the tank. So adding them at the same time would not be possible.
