Angler Setup

Hey Richard,

Since my first TBS experience began in January, I've been telling everybody that I'll never set up another tank again without TBS. Well I just won a 28g JBJ Nano tank this weekend and I'm thinking of setting it up as an Angler/softie tank. I don't know much about Anglers yet but thought I'd check in and see if this would still be a TBS compatible tank  and if you had any specific thoughts on how to stock it (rock, sponges, macros, softies, etc).

Plussss... a few months ago i had a heat wave strike the tank when my AC went out while we were on vacation. Water temps reached about 89 degrees. Since then I lost most sponges, purple gorg, and probably other small lifeforms. I never see any porcilein crabs waving their fans in the air anymore, but maybe they became lunch for someone else. lol But anyway, I'd like to get a few pretty things back into that tank. The only surviving sponge at the moment is the yellow/brown tree sponge and two brown gorgs. Amazingly i still have all 3 starfish (bristle, serpent, and that awesome huge orange star), 1 of my flame scallops, 3 out of 4 cucumbers, both urchins. Still keeping my build thread in the reef discussion updated with pics.

Anyway, let me know what you think about the angler setup.
Would probably want to get something going within the next couple weeks.

Thanks!

Yo!

Nice to hear from you.....I think it may be an 'angler" only tank....as they will eat anything, and I mean anything....even as large as themselves.

They do not require much room, as they just sit in ambush most of the time...so it is plenty big....

I used to see a lot of them here on the gulf 20 years ago, beautiful colored specimens....but have only seen a couple in a few years here....they got popular, and were collected up I believe.

Like sea horses...I have a tendency to let them be and rebuild stocks.

However they are readily available from importers....I see them at our local suppliers here....

sea ya!

Ya, he will definitely be the only fish in the tank. Probably just snails for cuc, or whatever else hitchhikes in and manages to survive.

But i figured sponges, macros and soft non-stinging corals would be ok? Typical TBS fare?
