Annoyed Fiance

My wife has given be free reign.

We were at the LFS one day when she asked me what will it take to make our tank look like that one. I told and she said go for it..that being said she doesn't have to much involment in it or care about, as long as it looks good in HER house! lol

But her hobbies are Stamp It Up and sewing..anyone who's better half is into sewing knows how much that costs so I never get too much flack.

My wife used to complain about the time and money, not to the point that we would argue, but enough to make her point known.

Then one day she hosted a shower at our house (wedding or baby, I don't remember which) and told me later she was amazed at how much she knew and could explain to all the gals there that were enjoying the tank. I think once it impressed a lot of her friends, it because less of a "burden."

Now that we have an infant son and he loves staring at the tank.....she bought me a nano!

I don't know what to tell you honestly. My husband and I both absolutely love our tank. I take care of a couple of tanks for other people also. Hubby is gone half the month at work so I do take care of ours and I know what goes into it as far as cost. Part of me is aware of how it will benifit our fish/corals, but the wife, mom, bill payer part of me at times has a very hard time coughing up the money. I just know that we have 5 kids and a mortgage etc and you never know when disaster might strike. I don't know if that might be the concern of your women, or its just that they dont get it. Cuz I get it and I still cringe when I write the checks for what we need/want. We do do alot of diy stuff, but it still costs an amazing amount of money.

She chooses not to be included and im fine with that. She works the night shift at the hopital and I work days. On nights when I watch her son Ive got to do something. Its better than chasin women and gettin drunk. I think reefs would actually be cheaper and safer. Ive made alot of changes in by life for her (was a bodybuilder), and this is one thing that I love so I think she needs to get over it.

my husband gave me my 180 3 years ago for our 22nd wedding anniversary. He sees how much I love my tank and this hobby and is happy that I do something I really love. I am sure he would rather it did not cost so much but you can't take it with you.

Amen! And the looks on peoples faces when you have an aquarium they've only seen at sea world is priceless. The look on kids faces when they stare at it is worth the money to me.

ummm....
Most of us are good wives, and Im sure his finance is a good woman too. Maybe she just doesn't understand his obsession with reefing..I cant say that I was happy when my hubby got into this to begin with, but I soon feel in love with the hobby also. Just because you had a bad marriage, dont assume all women are like yours.

here is what you do... you sit her down and tell her she might be better spending more time with the fishes to get a better understanding of them and why you are obsessed with you re piece of the ocean...then show her some cement shoes and sternly ask her if she understands.

I have the same situation with my faimly. They always complain about my tank and how much money I spend on it and all. But when company is over, they try to show it off and point out different things in the tank and how cool it is. I just laugh it off. Your definitely not the only one!

Ditto!

And when ever I try to point it out, they always say its your hobby!

My wife loves the tank, but does comment about the cost sometimes. We went to check out a new LFS on Saturday. Guess who picked out the $200 Aussie Acan?

My wife loves "our" tank although she performs no maintanence to the tank she supports me in every way, even let me upgrade recently from our 135 to a 240, she can be out shopping and will call to see if i need salt....now thats LOVE :)

as a side note this is the same woman that said to me one night on our way home from a party, " you know it would be nice if you got a Harley so we could join the local group and get out and go for rides!!!" GOD I LOVE HER:bounce1: :bounce2: :bounce3:

LOL!

Thats exactly my experience. We went to a frag swap and I had set the budget to $75. Guess what, my GF and my son (who give me flake about spending time and money on the tank) were the once who ended up buying $200 worth of sps frags (ofcourse, I was the one saying NO, NO :) )

Me & my GF are equally addicted to this hobby, which is great when she says i dont need my nails done lets go look at some new coral.

My wife didn't understand what the kids and I saw in the tank till I set up a 125 as my headboard (bedroom is her preferred room to hang). Now I do all the work but their her tanks. Caught her sister telling her she wanted one and to my suprise she began to tell her what was needed to set up, the cycle, and even about some fish then tells her that I'll be over to do plumbing. Couldn't help but to smile at how much she knew. My advise would be to set something up in their favorite area of the house.

Thats what I have to deal with except my boyfriend is the one who loves "our" tank but doesn't do anything!

I have to feed everyone because he thinks the food is gross.

He does help me lug buckets of water though so I can't complain too much.

He also lets me buy new things for the tank.

We decided not to buy anything for valentines day and just spend money on the tank :)

my wife really supports my/our hobby, she doesnt get involved on taking care of anything, except when we go buy coral, she is the one thats picks them out, hey at least she is doing something, lol.

sana
