Annularis Angelfish in a Reef

Giovanni

AKA Flippa
Anyone ever try to keep a Annularis Angelfish (Pomacanthus annularis). I have read all the literature. I want firsthand personal experience only please.

Thanks

had an annularis years ago in a fowlr with some random zoas, mushrooms, softies, ripped them all of the rocks. the annularis was actually worse than the emperor that i tried.

i would say your best bet would be to get those bali tank raised juv. any large wild caught angel will devastate a reef. i have tried my luck with quite a few large angels in a reef.

If you want to keep soft corals don't keep large angels. They will almost certainly pick any soft coral to death. My old annularis was the same as my emp and queen angel. Ate zoas immediately and picked leathers to death. SPS were ok for the short period of time I kept them with the angels.

I have had two large angels and they were both different. Koran will leave alone my shrooms LPS and Nem but destroyed my zoas. My also had an emperor that was the opposite didn't touch softies but loved hard coral. Each animal is its own just like each person likes different foods. I would not get an angel again for a reef setting

Well got an annularis off divers den adult color 5.5 inches. I figure they have it eating pepaired foods and it has been out of the wild for a while so I have a better chance at making it work.

Ive got one of the bali captive bred annularis thats still in an acclimation box in my tank (working on getting it to eat out of the water column). I figured that was the best bet for a large angel in a reef due to it being raised on pellet and flake - never seeing a reef. Awesome little 1.25" fish. Sketchy watching it eat though...it HAMMERS food. If it goes after coral the way it goes after pellet then I am in serious trouble.

Beautiful angels. Good luck with yours.

I hava also ordered an annularis, and will be placing it to a mixed reef.
The first one that came died soon in my LFS, and now I'm just waiting for the new one to arrive.

If you really want one then get it! It won't eat ALL your corals. When it starts to pick on something then just take the coral out and give it to someone else...
I have 3 large and 4 dwarf angels at the moment, and the only one who has ever picked at anything is my 10" imperator. It ate all zoas, but that I knew will happen.
I sold most of my LPS and zoas before I got her, and I actually think that it would have been wiser to just see what she may eat and then start to pull the corals out...

If my annularis starts to eat some corals then I can live with that. I know the risks, and I'd rather have that fish than one or two corals more...

go for it if u really the angel. I have a small emperor for 2 months in a mix reef. haven't touched anything yet. but if it does, I am ok with it.

I have a Majestic and Blueline without any picking...yet. There is a 50/50 shot with large angels and like everyone said already, if it comes down to it, you might have to pick one or the other. I like my angels too much so some picking will be ok with me.

It will be here tomorrow. It is going in my 330 that is not packed with coral yet. As long as it stays off the clams I will work it out. I am goi g to make a cage to go over my clams so if it starts on them i can drop it over them for a while.

The question that anyone thinking about purchasing any non-reef safe fish is whether the fish or the coral it may eat is more important.

I saw that one. Some people don't like them but I think they are prettier than the emperor or blueface...one of my favorites for sure.
