Another 225 Tank Project!

how hot does it get in ur garage?

well kind of funny. One day my house was really hot and I couldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t find my dog. So I went looking around for him and he was down in the garage lying on the cold Concrete. ***Bam..it hit me ...a free chiller. I could use my sub-terrain garage as a way to chill my water for free. That is when I redesigned my lay out completely. With the refugium and sump down stairs there is no heat. I only have one pump running everything and it has a build in 6" fan so it wont put any heat into the water. My tank never goes above 81' in the day with the 2120Watts of lights on, and never goes below 79.9' at night because of my acrylic enclosed sump with an 800Watt titanium heater in it. Also the fall and aeration cools it too I think.

If you look at my website you will see a 1/3 hp chiller there, but it is not hooked up, because I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t need it now, and it is summer too. That keeps my bill down a little. Plus, there is nothing under my display tank radiating heat through the bottom of the glass. It is the perfect setup I think.

WE have a 300 gal tank that is 7 feet wide as a head board to our bed in bedroom it is a reef tank we also have a fresh water 265 gal tank in the kitchen

Do you have a picture of the 300?

The picture of the 300 is in his gallery. That is crazy. No way would I sleep with 300 gallons of water over my head. What if he snores and one of his fish jumps out into his mouth? Do the fish stare at you while your trying to sleep? Because I know you look at them when they are sleeping. Is your tank noisy or smelly?

IT has been a while, so I thought I would do one last update. Everything is running great, tank is dialed in now, and everything seems to be showing growth....

Here are some pics

Very Cool!

I managed to get past 6 weeks withought a leak on the Acrylic tank so hopefully mine is all set now too!

My maroon clowns are about to spawn - expecting tonight or tomorrow some time :-)

Sweet!

Are the maroon in an anemone?

How do you know they are going to spawn?
Mine are acting wierd (vibrating) and diging up the sand..but this could just be normal behavior?

My cardnals have been activly breeding, I have all the babies living in my fuge.

great job!
I like how you say you are starting out slow then you show your sps and they are not frags nope, full colonies haha
Why did the clam need a dip? For the rice snails or something else?

The clam had pinch, but was not sure why, no snails present, after a couple of months, I decided to dip it to see if that will remove whatever is irritating it.

Funny that u should say something about fish jumping into my mouth !!
I have sleep apnea so i wear an air mask at night cause i do snore but the wife does not !
Tank is open all 7 feet and no one jumps out and tank is super quiet ! I will send some new pictures b4 christmass though !

They have a rose BTA from my previous setup. Thee female has spawned a lot before and the easy way to tell is that they start cleaning the hell out of some rock nearby, where eggs will eventually be laid. The male does this funky shaking/vibratring thing and my female looks like a pot belly pig! Never seen my clowns go near the sand to be honest, but who knows! I have a great book, "Clownfishes - A Guide to Their Captive Care, Breeding & Natural History" by Joyce D. Wilkerson, which is highly recommended. I'd like to try raise the fry eventually, but it's a lot of work ...
