Another crappy day in paradise

after having a 150 gallon fish only for seven years and 90 gallon corner reef tank for over a year at my business' office and my wife has or had a 90 gallon that was really full of corals and looking great for 2 years. This was going to be a thread about the 240 gallon I bought last weekend. I found a good deal on a stocked 240 tank r.o. system with a huge euro reef skimmer ,55 gallon sump about 200 lbs of live rock and several nice fish.I had started laying tile under the tank and on the wall behind it.I was going to post some pics of the progress on sunday.Well I had to leave this morning to pick up my father from the hospital 1 1/2 hours away .as soon as I walk in the hospital room my dad says it was my son on the phone and the house had caught on fire. We had 2 coralife timer power strips under the tank one for lights the other for pumps.apparently the light strip shorted and caught on fire catching something on fire also .the smoke alarms went off waking him up to a blaze under the tank ."thank for smoke alarms"he didn't want to throw water on an electrical fire .so he called fire dept thats 1 mile away.as he was talking to them the tank busted out the bottom and back.He couldn't get to tank right away as the whole house was full of smoke .Thankfully the tank put the fire out.He finally was able to get a few of the fish and corals into a tub I had with live rock in it waiting for the 240 to be set up.I won't ask what else can happen because I soon find out. :(

Oh thats terrible!!! I'm so sorry to hear this for you. Keep the chin up and hang in there. I have had some pretty bad times here as well. Hopefully you can claim the damage on your home insurance and get enough money to get another tank.

Gosh that sucks.
Now , here's hoping your insurance comes through when it really counts.

Keep your chin up, I'm sure those who read this are rooting for you to keep reef'n

Talk to your insurance company.

I had a bad shop light over my wifes sewing table (she is a
quilter) catch fire and cause about 5k of damage in under 5
minutes (fire is fast) She was devistated.

I called the insurance company and they replaced her machines
(expensive ones) and paid to have all the mess cleaned up.

Then they charged it back on the light company, so it cost us nothing.

Sorry to hear anything bad happen to a fellow reefer,
