Another Custom Stand Construction Thread- 120 Gal.

Absolutely gorgeous! Now, you've set the bar quite high for yourself... You need to make sure the inside of the tank looks every bit as good as the outside!:p
 
Rails and Styles are expensive tools. I'm lucky, my dad has a large shaper and just happens to have the Rails and Styles bit and the raised pannel bit. (That's a good 2k in tools).

It looks really good so far. I'm pulling for you to finish it off.
 
Yes a shaper is indeed an expensive way to go. Router bit sets can be had for under $200, not expensive at all when you consider how many different pieces you can use them for.
And of course a dado blade is all you need for basic panel doors.

Marino - I noticed that you have one of the sides of your tank tinted. Is that to keep light from spilling in that direction? I started thinking about tinting the back of my tank this weekend.

I bought the tank used from someone who had it set inwall. So the back and both sides were painted black. I scraped the paint from one end and originally intended to keep the other end covered to keep maintenance to a minimum. But I have decided to scrape this end clean as well. I just do not like the look.

Really nice nice stand

For my tanks I would need to set the floor of the tank deeper into the stand to hide a few inches of my substrate as I run DSB. The stuff gets sort of cruddy looking after a year or so and would really detract from the look of the stand.

Would love to see the plans for this stand
 
Honestly, there were no real plans. I did scratch some notes and dimensions on paper before starting and during the process. But nothing anyone else could understand. If you need any dimensions, I would be happy to provide.
 
I am trying to get someone in the Houston area to duplicate this stand for my 140.... no one seems to have the time or skill to do such a project!!
 
Thanks for the compliments. It did take a lot of hard work and a lot of hours. Especially since I could only work in the evenings and some weekends on it. But the time paid off. I love it. Not as hard as it seems. Especially if you have the right tools.
