Another Eco Pico Build

After seeing this little beauty at my local fish store I pondered weather to get one or not. Did some shopping around and found that Pershop.com had the lowest price. I also found out that Petshop.com and Marine Depot are one in the same company.

So the system came nicely doubled boxed.

The LED Lights and pump. Note that the 3 LED's are not bright enough. I ordered 2 more strips but they are Back Ordered. I ordered a 4 way splitter from Marine Depot in case i wanted to add a 4th strip. The 4way comes with individual shut off's so you can control each LED. The small pump is ok, but I don't want to add anything hanging off the back, it does move water nicely but you have to play around with it to get it in the right spot.

I am glad I didn't throw away those extra pieces that come with the Maxi Jets, this little addition gives me the option of directing the water a bit. Eco Pico should put a little flex arm on the pump return.

Most people paint the bank of there tanks. I opted to use black limo window tint that you can get from any car tinting store. It is very easy to install. So I won't bore you with the details.

Used my wife's hair dryer to quick dry the edges for trimming and the finished product

Added about 15 pounds of live sand and had live rock in my sump all ready and some frags from my tank.

And this is how it looks today April 2nd, 2012, still waiting on the additional LED's to arrive. I am not sure if I am going to add any fish to this little tank, maybe a pair of cleaner shrimp, but for now it's going to sit still until I get the additional LED's and see what it looks like then.

Well my two blue led's strips arrived and the same day the stock white blue died for some reason. Eco Pico is sending me a new strip. Very easy to deal with with replacement also sending out a new power supply. My zoo's look spooky under the blue LEDS. I just wish LED's were more affordable for my reef tank. Have been thinking of doing a DYI, but still in the thinking stage.

are those mojano anemones? I've always contemplated using them in a nano tank that size. They are actually very beautiful, and their size complements the tank.

most people consider them pests. they really just need to reconsider their use/applicaton

And the Sexy Shrimp make a great little host for them. Very hard to get photo's of the tank with nothing but the blue LED's on. White/blue strip arriving Monday.

Quick update. The other night I noticed that one of the blue LED's started to fall off the arm and was in the water. Not knowing if it was a goner I dried it off and plugged it back in and wala, works fine. I received my replacement light and now have 3 sets of LED's. Plus I added another Pico pump and took the sponge out of one of them and put some charcoal in it's place. My xenia from my main tank is happy, my sexy shrimp seem to be happy in the micro min's. I love the blue glow that the LED's bring out in the zoo's almost like a black light. Now I am having a problem getting a good picture with all the lights on, camera won't behave. I don't think I am going to do anything else to the tank, I take 2 cups of water from my main tank and switch it out with the Pico tank, my way of doing water changes...( Every 3 days)
