Beautiful coral. I wish I knew where to get Aussie Elegance corals around here. Are any of the Elegance corals in your area suffering like the ones we get here in the states?

Hey elegance,
My LFS gets them in every once in a while and I'd say half have melted in the store after a month or so. The other half got sold so not sure how they ended up doing.
Another LFS has been getting some from Flores Island for a few months and the ones in the store have all done well. Mine is doing great after 2 months but time will tell.

Thats great to hear. I hope it stays well. What area are you from? Here in Florida we have no way of knowing where our Elegance corals came from.

They should be. There is no need to dive to great depths to collect them in Australia. I haven't been able to get my hands on one to see for myself though.
The Aussie ones are fairly expensive compare to the Indo ones...
I recently got an Indo one. This one have been sitting in the store for over a month, looks healthy and is sticky like glue. Hopefully this one will do OK.
The not so funny thing about the Aussie ones are that they were hacked from the mother colony.

They seem to be frags off a much older coral. Once the ends heal up they should be fine. How is your indo Elegance doing?

I'm just wondering because IME Bicolor Blenny's take a particular dislike to Cataphyllia jardini.
Anemones don't particularly make good tankmates for this coral, either.
Is there any reason in particular you posted this?

You can see him smiling in the background of the pic... he often rests on the polyps, seemingly avoiding the tentacles. Each individual polyp in my colony is about 10 to 12 cm wide.
I aslo have 3 purple tipped anemones that move around to a couple of their favourite spots in my tank. The anemones avoid the elegance, through lessons learned I guess. I have observed the elegance almost pulling the tentacles off anemones that got too close.
From observing anemones in my tank, they obviously have some intelligence, taking the same routes to their resting places amongst the live rock. They also settle in the same spots. 1 has two areas of preference whilst the other two tend to hang out together in a shadowy spot with high flow. They also know when the chopped prawns hit the water !!
