Acclimating! You can get a pretty good idea of her size from this picture
You are not just going to toss her in the tank after only temperature acclimation are you? That is a big no no. They need to be drip acclimated for at least an hour and also temperature acclimated. The shock could kill them if you don't. Inverts are more sensitive to acclimation than fish and take more time and care.

Lol of course not! He dripped for almost 2 hours. I've also kept 2 mantis before so I have experience. Sorry if the questions I ask come off sounding like a noob, but I'm certainly not. I'm just trying to be extra careful with this one because I've been waiting for a baby peacock for a long time.

Yea looks like a girl. Males are getting harder to come by because of over collecting. That tank is worth bragging about. It's very nice. Does that mean ol lion ever bother the others?

No he behaves himself. For the last 5 years or so my main interest has been in keeping lionfish, scorpionfish, anglers... and various other ambush predators. That lion is a dwarf zebra and he's always been a model citizen, even now that he's the only lion left in the tank and he lives with 5 damsels, a baby clown, a mandarin, and that big anthias. Now some of the scorpionfish I've kept are another story lol, the white one that you can see in the bottom right has eaten 7 tankmates over the years, including another scorpionfish and a fu man chu lionfish. Girl, I don't see the "boy parts" on her.
I've had two male O. scyllarus in a row.. ironically.. however they are more and more rare.
My third O. scyllarus is female.
Really good looking tank!

I'm wondering if the tube isn't a little on the small side. Can your mantis turn around inside it? I've tried to size my burrows to allow them to be able to turn around inside of them... which my O. scyllarus does often.

Is she aggressive in anyway? More often than not you'll get a "good" well behaved one you can keep fish with.
They're really comparable to dogs as they're only aggresive if provoked IMO.. all mine are angels (except one but she's starting to calm down finally)

No she hasn't shown any signs of aggression (except to the fiddler crab she destroyed), she actually seems quite shy. I wasn't planning on keeping anything with her, mainly for the water quality issues, maybe a damsel or two once she's in the bigger tank but for now my main concern is keeping the water quality perfect in this smaller tank.

Yes everything is going well, she seems nice and healthy. She doesn't venture out much though, I only see her sticking her head out of the whole, never see her exploring the tank. I also think I need to break the rubble into smaller pieces because she hasn't done anything as far as moving them around or covering her burrow.

Most O. scyllarus only close up for molting. I've never seen mine do such.

Betty only closes up her den for molting, too. She does sometimes do some re-arranging at night and make the entrances smaller, but not completely closed. The entrances are usually wide open in the morning. I suppose it depends on her level of ambition that night. It's not consistent. She hasn't been doing it much lately. She does have the rocks in front of her den just exactly how she wants them and if you move one, she puts it back. She regularly redecorates her entrances.
