My friend gave me this coral because it was dying in his tank. He said it was sold to him as madracis ten-ray star, which I don't think it is.

I think I put it too high in my tank as it started to turn white so I put it on the sand and hopefully it turns darker again. But right now I know it's stress/dying because the pods are eating it at night.

So if someone could ID it for me, and give me advice on how to keep it alive, that'd be great.

Thanks in advance

Looks more like Leptastrea pruinosa to me. There's too many septas and the coralites are too close to be a madracis. First clue: there's more than 10 rays. :D I also replied to your thread in the other forum too.

Thanks Viper...It is much more closer than a ten-ray star :).

Do you know the requirements of this coral? I really want it to survive, but it seems like the pods see it as their dinner. Right now it on the sand with good amount of flow.

IME they don't like a lot of light, so the sand bed should be fine. Keep it in some pretty good flow because it looks like some of the tissue is still deteriorating.
