i have a 90 gallon mixed reef, mostly lps, but a few high end sps. Can you advise what i would need? I was thinking two WP40's, but not completely confident that's what i need.

I am running 2 WP-25s and it's fine on my 90 mixed reef. If you're really worried about it you could get 1 WP-40 and a WP-25, but I think it would be overkill.

Hey Anbosu, what are you running your wp25s at? Maybe he could get two wp40's and just run them at their lowest setting and incase he ever wants to get into SPS he would atleast know he has the extra flow from the 40s if needed.

Two 40's would be way too much in a 90g. I would go with 1x 25 and 1x 40 or even 3x 25's but two 40's is way overkill.

I honestly don't think x2 wp40's is overkill in a 90g. I plan on using x2 wp40's in a 75g but, it is going to be a bare bottom SPS tank.

I'll have to check the settings when I get home. The WP40s would also take up a lot of real estate in a 90 gallon tank. I think if you're going SPS heavy getting 3 WP25s makes sense, but I would never get 2 WP40s in a tank that size. I had 2 WP40s in my 156 and they were still blowing the sand all over the place.

I'm with you on that one.

+1 on not having 2-wp40's in a 90g

I tried it and the polyp extension on my green birdsnest was receding on half of the colony, I though it was dying until it was because I figured out I had too much direct flow, on a 120g it might be ok. If you stratigically place your rockwork you may be able to get a way with 2 but I couldn't get 2 wp40's going in my tank and keep all corals happy.

That's actually a really good idea. I might end up doing x3 25's instead of x2 40's.

Depending on what kind of livestock and flow you want in your 90 will answer that question. For an all sps 90 I would go with a wp25 on each side of the tank and 2 wp10s on the back side to keep out any dead spots. If your going mixed reef with sand then that may be 2 much. If they worked in slave mode 2 wp25s on each side would make a hell of a back and forth wave. I have seen MPs set up this way to mimic the tide rolling in and out.

Again, another great idea. I think a bare bottom 75g SPS tank would work really well with a wp25 on each side and then two wp10's on the back glass. Decisions.
