Lonnie,
I'd get rid of the Collecting Harness Racing Memorabilia first :)
I stopped collecting a while AGO.

Anyone want to buy a vintage Dan Patch horseshoe?

Did someone say barbecue?

:p

I was thinking more along the lines of fresh Sushi :D

Iam in the process of setting up a tank in a Nursing Home, kinda like something to give back to the folks that paved the way for all of us, now it seems like this tank will actually save my reef, so I can go fish only.

Would a huge pink birdsnest look good in the Nursing Home tank?

It's theirs if they want it :)

I dont think it will be ready anytime soon, I still have to cycle. I (Ray) will be posting pics for progress. I know we all target the younger minds to raise awareness but I also figure some of our elders want to know we are doing something positive to our planet. the place is in Broad Lawn Manor infront of Sunrise Mall.

Since my move, I now pay $.11 cents a kilowatt.
Iwaki's run amuck now :)

You are in the "cheep" part of the state. Most of us are around $.19 a kilowatt.

Is there a link to the Solar place that you folks are looking into? I need to find a way to cut my bill as well....

lonnie with the size of your roof you could power half your neighborhood if you went solar.

oh ya its ray under toms name. lol

oh ya dexter i saw three wii at ....lol

I want to move to Pittsburgh--their rates are 6-11 cents/kW/Hr--a lot of people do their entire house, heat and everything, electric because it is cheaper that way. My good buddy ( :) ) runs about 600g with T-5's plus a 1000g shark pond, plus a whole house, and doesn't ever pay more than $200/month.

Maybe the answer is not relying so much on Metal Halide Lighting.
Perhaps go back to PC or T5 or combos of both. Probably do with out a chiller also then. This is where most of the elec. bill is spent.

Dam i dont remember the last time my bill was under $200 :( Moving out of state is looking better and better!

I'm definitely going to investigate solar power.

Lonnie,

How about getting one of those bike powered generators?
http://www.econvergence.net/electro.htm

You'll have to switch to LEDs, but you can put your kids to work!
;)

It's an old idea. :P There is a whole thread on "another forum" about how much energy a kid in a hamster wheel can generate, and about the R value of small children used as insulators. Fascinating.

(Needless to say, my brother had something to do with that thread )

Maybe it seriously is time to look at LED systems? a 48" model is $2,300 with your bill it sounds like it will pay for itself. I went T5 when I had my canopy disaster and I am at $100 mo for the tank.

THe LED lights use 40% less energy and produce almost no heat. Maybe you can take your chiller down and sell it to help with some of the cost of the LED lighting. With the savings from the MH lights, the bulb replacement every six months and the cost of running the chiller you may save a boatload of money. If you havent looked at them yet SCFR has the 72" Model on a tank and it looks beautiful.

The PFO Solaris units were all over at IMAC, and they are indeed pretty sweet. What I like best about them is that they are compeltely programmable--you can change the wavelength blends, the timing of course...simulate cloud cover, moon phases, the works. Pretty nifty.

That said, I love my T-5's. Definitely hotter than LED, but cheap to buy and cheap to run, and easy to DIY.
