Another option for red bugs

jcw, fyi

Here is a related thread from the URS forum, a local forum. As you can see some local folks have had success with the Bayer product but there is lingering concern about the toxicity.

This is all good news for those who can fit coral into bucket. Im wondering what can those of us do for corals that cannot be removed from the tank due to their size or attachment to rocks? Has anyone looked at the chewable Heart Guard as an altenatve to interceptor? Is it the same active ingredient as interceptor? Dont mean to derail a great thread but I may at some point need to address this problem and with the way my tank is Bayer wont be a solution.

To test an agent safely, you need to do trial using an infested coral in a separate tank like I did in this thread. Then you will need to test the agent on a small tank with higher forms of inhabitants like fish, crustaceans and other inverts. It is going to be costly and time consuming. I did think about it before I experimented with Bayer. With Heart Guard, however, I will infer that it won't work because it is meant for heart worms (nematodes) which are totally different specie from RB (Arthropoda). I assume you are dealing with RB because interceptor works against it but not AEFW.

you are correct, I have never had AEFW only red bugs at times. Now that I have a tank that really cant be taken apart to treat I just wondered if there was anything out there that could be used for people like me. I see now there isnt. I can only hope the makers of interceptor return the product to market.

The cost of the Heart Guard is prohibitive for an experiment but if money is not an issue for ou, I encourage you to take the challenge. Use a small frag from the infested acro to start with.
Regarding interceptor, I have a feeling there will be 3R soon...Renaming, Repackaging, Raising the price. Just like Southdown.

I dont have any RBs at the present time (thankfully) but since I do have Heart Guard here I will give it a shot If I do get another outbreak just to see what happens. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

i have a 28 gal nano cube i was able to get one pill for dogs51-100 ibs pill is 23.0 mg into how many pieces do i cut the pill im getting tired of reading most people have a big tank

I'm planning on starting to dip around a dozen or more mini colonies and frags for red bugs with the concentrate formula. I have a 55 gallon QT, and am wondering what is the safest amount of time in between dips? I'm thinking dip once, wait 6 days, and dip one more time. Wait another 3-4 days before returning to my DT. I really dont want to keep them in the QT for any longer than that given the lack of filtration and different lighting.

Yes? no? what ya think?

I dipped all my SPS with this, and they have done perfectly fine. If you have a QT, I would repeat treatment at one week and two weeks after the initial treatment.

S I'm not sure how you guys are taking photos of the results hence the amount of bugs falling off during the dip. I added .05 ml per 2 cups and the water is extremely chalky white?

Something is wrong if you are getting a milky solution. I never had that result at any concentration. Not sure why you get that.

Hm I believe I got the right stuff. Bayer Advanced comple insect killer with the same ingredients everyone else says they have and have showed. Not sure what's going on. He coral look good so far.

The complete concentrate brand is white liquid. I had to dump the mixture into something white bucket because I dipped them in a clear plastic bowl and dilute it before I could the bugs that had fallen off.

Ya my solution is white as well. It's the right stuff as far as I can tell. Bayer advanced complete insect killer.

Okmso I went back a couple pages and it looks like I was suppose to buy concentrate. I have ready to spray. The label is silver as well not white as shown in the picture. Is this ok it's not going to hurt anything is it. I already dipped
