just seen in RB...it is second one in a fortnight...after rob's catch...it seems a new wave of collecting masked angel has begun...:fun2:

It'll be interesting to see what happens. I bet the collection of these fish slows. The number of people in this hobby willing to spend $6.5-8K on a fish is limited, and if the market is flooded, the price will go way down.

it's tiny and i guess it will cost more as it has better chance of survival...in any case this is not the last and we will see some more coming up in near future...i believe...

now someone should get down to caught pappermint angel...:jester:

The crazy thing is that I hear Rufus only caught it in 250ft. in an area that is extremely close to where Rob dives 3 days a week.... I guess everyone get lucky and maybe it is masked angel season, huh? I also hear that he caught a 1.5" bandit angel and several other M sized bandit angels on the dive.....

Well when the days get longer thats when most angelfish species spawn. So thats why youll find more juvenile angelfish.

Jordani...I just noticed your avatar...that is sick!!!!!!! Is that the collector's hand or yours?Thats a 6cm fish?

No it's someones hand but not mine.

Why do you find more juvenile angelfish? The reason you gave doesn't really add up.

In the winter angelfish don't breed in the spring-summer angelish start breeding. So the small baby fish will be seen from early summer to early fall.

That is a much better description. Just because angelfish are spawning doesn't mean that you find more juvi's. The fact that they spawned the previous summer, and the larvae have since settled and grown into juvenile's by the next summer, is a better way to explain it I'd say. Some people will just assume they are making babies right away since they are spawning, and it doesn't quite work that way.

He is still in business and is leaving next week for a 6 week vacation in France. Many of the conspics that you see for sale come from him. He is one of only two collectors that I know of in New Caledonia.

****UPDATE****So the little masked angelfish arrived in Japan today...the guys that got it---Blue Harbour Aquarium Factory in Osaka. Koji Wada spent the day calling prospective customers trying to sell it for about $10,850.... That means that Rufus sold it to him for around $5000... Dang thats cheap!!! I could have had a 1" masked angel for $5000!!!!!!! Aghghghghghghg..... next time.
