Another possible Calcium Chloride source?

Hi Randy,

I happen to live near the town where they package snow melt products. I'm trying to find out more information because I suspect they are just repackaging and not producing calcium chloride and magnesium chloride.

What would I need to know about these products to determine their worthyness for use in your additive solutions?

Here's the link to their page:

I found this information in an MSDS sheet for their product:

Calcium Chloride CAS#010043-52-4 90-97%
Sodium Chloride CAS#007647-14-5 1-2%
Potassium Chloride CAS#007447-40-7 2-3%
Strontium Chloride CAS#010476-85-4 0-1%
Water

and near the middle of the sheet it says that large drum recycling for this product is offered. Contact DOW.

Mystery Solved?

I have been looking everywhere for any type of calcium chloride and this is the only stuff that I was able to find. I bought two bags of it so I hope it is safe to use!

Mystery Solved?

Maybe. That has about that right set of expected major impurities and the mention of Dow is good. It might well be worth trying. :)

I've been using QikJoe Ice Melt for 6 months now. So far so good. Also, when you read the description for the QikJoe Calcium Chloride, it mentions the pellets as Peladow.
