I have recently made some rocks and they are in the curing stage (2 weeks now). The rocks turned out great but the ph in the water they are soaking in is off the charts. I would guestimate that it is over 9.0. Will this drop overtime? How do I know that the rocks are ready to go into the display?
I have been changing the water every 2 or 3 days and sometimes I add some vinegar to the soaking water.
About making the rocks: It was a blast!!! It is really cool to see what kind of structures you can come up with. Some of the rocks we made would cost hundreds of dollars at the LFS (if you were lucky enough to find one). We also made some really cool caves by partially inflating a surgical glove and surrounding it with the cement mix. I noticed that you used small agrogate in your mix. We used a mix of Aragonite, Southdown Play Sand, Crushed Coral and a bag of sea shells. The different size media gave us some pretty cool texture in the finished product.
Just to share, Our mix:
1 part cement
3 parts sand/aragonite
2 parts shells/crushed coral
