I did my homework, research and analysis. I asked around. I visited at least 4 to 6 local fish stores. I read through pages and pages of blogs, online guides, forums and reviews. I even spent some time admiring other reef tanks on YouTube. When it came down to purchasing my first live rock and sand; I decided to give TBS a try and I'm very glad I did.
The best live rock that I've seen in a LFS, at best, is covered in purple coralline but nothing more. The best live sand is some type of aragonite laced with beneficial bacteria for a quicker cycle. The live rock and sand from TBS is quite different. TBS rock may not have as much coralline as "cured" live rock but what you have is truly living product that is a host and platform for vibrant reef life. As you have probably read from the other posts, Richard sends you "The Package" submersed in water, packaged very securely, air freighted and with some very generous extras (or hitchhikers as he likes to call them).
I ordered the 20 gallon "The Package" plus a few additional add-ons for my 24 gallon cube-shaped reef aquarium and I am quite pleased with the results. See for yourself...
(Everything in the tank with the exception of the starter fish was ordered from TBS.)
Thanks to Richard for an awesome package!
