We were just given this little guy and he is VERY happy!

Was wondering what kind he is and how big is he going to get...

We put him in our 16 Gallon and shut off the major powerhead so flow is minimal...

he is eatting fine and starting to explore the tank... we are little concerned about our emerald crab though?

Neither the crab shrimp or blue velvet seem to be bothering him

He is appox 1.5" to 2" tall with tail curled

Thanx in advance as always!

Well, I am not sure, and certainly no expert, but it looks to me like Hippocampus comes, at least from the striping on the tail. It looks very similar the pictures of tank-raised H. comes that are on Live Aquaria's website, which is why I say that.

Still, like I said, I am no expert at seahorse ID. Take it with a grain of salt.

Emerald crab is probably a bad idea. Emeralds are opportunistic and will sometimes kill small or sleeping fish... And I'm guessing seahorses are on the list of meals, since they're slow moving.

Thank you, been a few weeks now and he/she is doing GREAT!

Anyway to sex it and find a mate... or should I begin a new thread?

Sexing young seahorses is almost impossible until they are older juvies. This is even sometimes difficult because what appears to be female drops a pouch later. If you just wanting two then you can pick up another and they should do fine but if your wanting to experience the fry (babies) then you should wait about 4 to 6 months to see if pouch develops and go from there.
They are addicting so be careful.. :-)
Hope Rayjay chimes in he might have the most experience with the H. Comes and their is a great thread at seahorse.org on H. Comes by- leliataylor-.
