I bought a golden maxima about two months ago. It was slightly gapping but reactive to light and the mantel was fully extended so I thought, hey give it a shot. I soon discovered pyramid snails. I trying to manually remove the snails several times a week for about a month, but the snails finally won. The clam died about three weeks ago. Last night, I was looking at my tank with a flashlight when I noticed literally hundreds of small pyramid snail like snails all over my rocks. I have a crocea that has never been affected by these guys, and is healthy and growing super fast. The snails seemed to be feeding directly on the rocks, none were even on the clam. I have introduced some additional corals since the clam died, it is possible that these new snails represent a new type of snail similar to pyramid snails. Is this a unique experience? Do certain species attack certain species of clam? Are there omnivorous species? Is there a good site to read about these guys?
