Another Tang Question...

They are both beautiful fish but are very aggressive especially with other tangs, I would say that you should skip those two for the sake of the other 5 tangs that you want

+1 the clown and sohal are very aggresive the sohal being the worst of the two

It can be possible. I have over 10 tangs in my small little 210gallon. It has been over a year with half of them and the other half at least 2 weeks to 5 months. At the moment, they are all doing great and seem to be docile with each other. I do have a very big tank coming up in the near future I hope the tang police don't come knocking at my door...there is a video towards the end....I think personality and order of the fish has a lot to do with each. Also there are like so many fish that the agression seems to be evened out and not one targets another one....but just wanted to share my .00002.

Nice tank, thanks for the pics...
Is that a Niger Trigger in there too?

what other swimmers can i put in with the Tangs?
I thought that triggers were a no-no?

so excited about all of the new possibilities!

It depends ont eh trigg but I think some triggers are more a no-no for reef due to their reputations for eatting your clean-up crew such as shrimps, crabs etc. and smaller fishes. My trigs are model citizen and don't bother anyone at all even the shrimps...but I feed them large piece of seafood such as shrimp, calamari, squid and such x2 a day. But it would be a site to see if they did turn on my shrimps...(knocko n wood)because they have a deadly mouth with small inprints of teeth. Smaller trigs probably adjust better to reef aquarian if you were thinking of getting trigs.

How about Angels? How would a Regal Angel go with the Dwarf angels in the 125 FOLR?
I may leave the PBT & yellow eye in the FOLR

If you don't have clams and mostly sps the regal will be fine. I also have a juv emperor with a coral beauty and they are fine and have been together for months

What can play with a Sohal or Clown???

They can play together. I have 5 tangs in my 180 (yes call the tang police). The first one I added was my pride and joy my sohal (midnight) he's like a son to me.

I've had him for 3 years now.
The next was a purple (arial) that was given to me by a buddy that needed to lower his bio load.

A few months later I was also given a blue regal (Dory) and a yellow (bubbles).

O yea yes my three year old gets to name all the new fish. The last tang I got was a clown tang (Sebastian). When I got the clown he looked like hell the guy had him in a 55gallon. His top dorsal fin was ripped apart

The first 24 hours after putting the clown in were crazy. An hour after I put the clown in my sohal went ballistic on him. Well I had heard a buddy say that a mirror will defuse the situation. Luckily the wife had a 6' mirror. I put it along one side of the tank instantly the sohal stop going after the clown and started watching him self. I left the mirror up for 74 hours and when I took it down it was like they had been in the tank for years. But every now and then the sohal has to remind them all he's the boss.

Oh... if you have clams then don't mess around with any angels in the 375. Dwarf or otherwise. It doesn't take much nipping to kill a clam. And those seem too tempting for angels.

I have successfully kept angels and clams together for many years. Cherubs, Flames, Flamebacks, Goldens and Goldflakes.

Having kept angels and clams for over 20 years, I have only come across a couple of multi-color that picked at the clams.

Maybe it's just my luck then. Every angel I've ever owned eventually starts picking at the clams. Not right away... but after a year or so. I've been trying for 20+ years now.

This is most people's experiences. I have a juv emperor and a coral beauty with a 4" squamosa and a 6-7" deresa and neither angel looks at the clams twice.

I have found that the fish dont always get the "Memo" about their supposed demeanor...

I have had many Hawk's and Marine Beta's that are model citizens....

:)

If I were you and were looking for fish to interact, in a tank that size you could put in a harem of genicanthus angels (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-02/hcs3/) 1M3F as they are pelagic and planktivores so should leave coral alone. I personally think that acanthurus olivaceous and acanthurus tennenti look spectacular when adult due to the nice lines and nice curve they get on their tails. Acanthurus japonicas is also a personal favourite, but as your in the USA you might have trouble getting one to survive. Any Xanthichthys triggers should be fine in that tank as well, from blue throats to red tails to cross hatch ($$). A school of banner fish or pyramid angels would also look nice. You could also explore a harem of Cirrhilabrus laboutei or Cirrhilabrus lineatus which would look proportionate in a tank that large. anyways lots of possibilities...

The Lamarck's Angelfish looks like a wonderful addition and dont know how they slipped under my radar....

Thanks for some wonderful new ideas....
could you maybe point me in the direction to find more info on schooling / Harem and having multiple fish of the same species? I have not found much which surprises me..

thanks
Drew

PS Happy Father's Day
(from your swimming children)

a lot of the schooling fish don't school in home aquariums due to size of tanks/no predators/etc. there are a few theories, but nothing concrete. As far as Harems go, you kinda have to just read a lot and you pick these things up. If you haven't yet go through the reefkeeping mag and read as much as you can. They are written by some of the best in marine keeping and are always referenced, so are more reliable. Most people don't have the tank size or money to try harems of things, they prefer to have more selection, and most often things will get along for <1yr and after that will rip each other to shreds.
