Another "what is it?"

I saw this little guy through the glass, in my substrate. My first thought is not a good one, but I don't want to be suggestive. I'd rather wait on what people more knowledgeable have to say.

He has the ability to go from about 1/2" Tto 1". The things on the side of him do look like they may be small clumps of hair, and he seems to use them like a centepede would his legs...for movement.

It doesn't seem to like light. When I put a flashlight on him, he shortens his body, but keeps moving, as if looking for a place to get away from the light.

This guy is "quarantined" in a cup until I decide to flush him or not.

Ok...I found that if I'm wrong on this, at least I'm not the only one. I think it's a bristleworm. the guy on this page had one that's exactly the same, but he says he doesn't think they're bad. Is there any type of GOOD bristleworm?

This page also has a pic of the same one and says that it's not a bad type of bristleworm. Do you all agree or not?

It appears to be Eurythoe complanata. Agree? I hope so because I did see one or two more that I couldn't catch.

Yep, definetly bristleworm. He's fine. They eat the junk that falls into the cracks of the rocks. We had one in a tank bout 2 years ago that was like 8" long and as thick as a pencil. YUCK. When they get that big you can get em out with a freshwater dip if they bug you.

You can flush him but there are probably another hundred in your tank. Kinda like cockroachs, if you see one you know you've got many. Harmless BTW and, other than irritating some corals, can be part of a healthy CUC.

Soo right, Cee, about if there's one there's hundreds more! My 5g tank that I've been "growing" a tiny Green Clown Goby in for the last 4 months , got over run with them because of the heavy feeding. I finally started reducing the numbers by pulling them out with long tweezers. Great sport! They're pretty easy to catch in a small tank with very little rock and sand..

bristleworm for sure. I personally have a "death on sight" policy for the little things. They just multiply too quickly. I recently bought 40lbs of live sand and ended up pulling out over 1500 of these darn things. Now I just have one 5 inch one that a keep in a small betta type setup. I call him pokey.
