Another "Which do I need" thread

Hi- I need advice.

I am setting up a 100 gallon reef. It will be mostly softies, and will be set up with three islands of rock rather than the rock wall effect. The tank is five feet long. There will be taller islands at each end and a shorter one in the middle. There will be a shallow sand bed in the tank. I will also have top water movement with the return from my fuge.

Which stream(s) do I need? I was thinking one 6100 with a controller, but was unsure if I needed two 6000s instead?

Thanks in advance for the help and I can't wait to get this set up!

Can you give more details on the corals and also tank dimensions? By softies do you plan to have mainly leathers or mainly stuff like colts, chili corals, kenya trees?

Wow- what a fast response!

Tank dimensions are 60" long, 18" wide, 20.5" deep. (I think that's 100 gallons). My plans are (at least to start) corals like leathers and zoas. I also plan to have some fish, so that needs to be taken into account.

Down the road, assuming all goes well, I may expand into other softies, but doubt I will go beyond that- I love the softie look.

Based on your quick response, and the feedback here on the forum, my decision to go with Tunze was the right one. Now I am even more excited to get this going.

Thanks again!

OK, leathers and zoos can deal with higher flow than colts and the like, in fact leathers need good flow to help slough the waxy film they produce. Some of them like the Sarcophyton they commonly sell as Spaghetti or Rasta leather- my favorite one, come from very high flow reef trenches. I think your tank would do well with 2 6000 and a 7095. As an alternative you could use a wavebox and a 6000 if you don't mind having the bigger wavebox in the tank and your tank has the correct set up for a wavebox (center overflow is ideal and you would need about a 1.5" space from top of water to the trim) it would give a neat look because the corals rock back and forth in a natural motion.
