Another Yellow Tang thread...

Tried to get my wife to send me a pic of the spot on his fin, but she said it was gone!

So, this is the most recent one I have...

Update: tang is fatning up that's for sure. Has HLLE however behind the eyes on the face. Removed carbon, performed water change and ensured grounding probe was still good to go. In time it should heal nicely. Other than that he is looking so much better. Water perams are good to go.

People keep saying yellow tangs are hardy, but if so why do so many people have issues? I'm glad to see yours is pulling through!

I think that's the wrong perspective. Yellow tangs are very popular and I would guess are one of the most commonly kept fish. Not many will post or start a thread to talk about how well their yellow tang is doing, but a lot will when they have a health concern or issue.

^ That is very true... I am quilty of it 100%. I knew I wanted a yellow tang and that its a VERY popular fish.

I did as most do when they see a problem and searched. Came up with a million things it could be and I ended up posting another countless yellow tang thread in hopes of getting a definite answer.

So far I have found the best way to learn is to actually go through it whatever it may be and its apparent that my yellow tang was not in the best of health from the get go... I also quarantined too short and I am dealing with the repercussions now.

It is gratifying to see the great improvements. They are definitly an awesome fish with a lot of character that brightens up the tank.

I dont even want to say it, but the whole HLLE/carbon issue... I dont understand it. So much back and forth and so many countless threads. It seems split 50/50. I dont want this to start another debate, but Im lost... I have many friends that run carbon with yellow tangs with ZERO issues.

Some say its the fines/dust - I rinse it out thoroughly
The quality of carbon - BRS Large Particle Lignite (Not sure if thats "quality")
Stray voltage... Have a grounding probe
Nutrition - (The most relivant one to me) As said before, it gets a gammet of things that I believe covers all the bases. Altough I have not purchased any soaking supplements. I cant speak for how he was fed/treated at the fish store.
Stress - Seems pretty happy to me, but im not a fish. lol! No aggression, nothing bothering him and he is for sure king of the roost.

As I understand it HLLE recovery will take some time, so thats exactly what I expect. Ill keep doing what I am doing and only time will tell.

I believe they indeed are a hardy fish as they tend to bounce back from ICH, fin rot, HLLE, etc... If given the proper care.

Update:

New Life Spectrum pellets and Seaweed with Garlic (both red and green). Mysis once a week, occasional blood worm treat.

Tang is now FAT and healthy almost a year later with ZERO signs of ever having any of the issues I had in the beginning. Beautiful fish.
