Sorry if I missed something. What do attribute the coloring up of corals to.
I think it just got to the point where my nutrients were too low and I was starving the corals. I originally thought that phosphates were still too high and that trying to lower those would finally help color things up, but that was opposite of what I wanted to do. I added the dedicated macro tank and reduced feedings, but looking back I think that just made things worse. I started noticing the changes with heavier and more frequent feedings (3 times per day now), in addition to dosing Salifert's Amino Acids (the recommended dose per week, plus a little squirt with each feeding). I started the heavier feedings and did that for 1-2 weeks before I got the amino acids, so I'm not sure if the AAs gave it a boost or if the continued feedings were starting to make a difference.
If you remember I just built a 135 and am currently using 6 x60" T5s -5 blue spec and 1 daylight.
5 ATI Aquablue Specials + a GE 6500K? I assume that's a pretty crisp white with just a hint of blue? If so, how do you like the look? Maybe adding a KZ lamp and some Blue+ lamps if you are looking for something different.
Have been having some luck with SPS.
Awesome. What kind of SPS do you have so far?
What woukld you suggest as my first addition n the equipment area. Currently Just have skimmer and am dosing mag and calcium. BRS 2 part??? Reactors??
Sounds like you're good on lighting. You have fans on the label end of the lamps, right?
What kind of skimmer, pumps/powerheads?
I would assume your calcium demand is not too high at this point, so you should be fine w/ the 2-part method if you want to do that for a while. You mentioned Ca and Mg, but I assume you are dosing alk too? A reactor is nice when you have a decent calcium demand and/or you want to help taking care of the daily routine. I haven't had to touch my reactor for weeks and my tests show Ca & alk haven't changed. A good reactor from Geo will be around $700. For me, it was well worth it. If you're looking to get into more SPS, then it is definitely something to start considering.
