Anthias

My tank is

48 long 24 wide 18 tall

I might upgrade and get a taller tank

Fuge/Sump is 50 gallons (not that it matters other then bioload purposes)

I want to keep a school of anthias

What are the smallest anthias so I can keep a larger amount, what amount would you reccomend? What species would you recomend.

I want a realy active fish yet I want it to be on the small side (to maximize size of school)

I think anthias would be the perfect fish for my tank becuase I recently went on a live food craze and am setting up cultures for brine shrimp, mysid, rotifers, pytho, and pods.

All input would be appreciated

Should be noted that corals take up minimul space in the tank, its all rics, zoos, shrooms, and star polyps. So they are more of an encrusting coral around the rock (wich is also very minimul), the rockwork is very low and flat except for a few ledges were zoos grow.

I would go with Barletts. I have three in my 110. I think I could have done 5. You shouldn't need live food for these guys. Mine eat everything including new life spectrum( although I mostly feed a mix of frozen foods)

Squares seem to get pretty big.

Lyretails or Pink Longfin, maybe ? I'm trying to find 5 good ones myself at the moment, 1 male 4 female...

I think tom o above meant squampinnis, not squares. Squampinnis = lyretails.

Personally, I also would recommend lyretails. I have 9 in my 180 - 8 females and 1 male. I have found them easy to keep, and they are also easy to determine gender as you only want to keep one male.

You must have understood me. Squa's are referring to Squamapinnis or the Lyretail as commonly referred to. The coloration on these fish (from the Maldives) is different than the more common looking Lyretails. Carraberry Species is also nice.

Sorry to jump in your thread, but I have the same quesitons for my 75. I know my tank is not big enough for many, if any at all...

So what would be the fewest number of Lyretail anthias that would possibly school?
