Antibiotic treatment as a prophylaxis

I also found that an anemone can mess up 20 gallons just as fast as 5 or 2, so smaller tanks are better because they make frequent water changes are easier. This is especially the case if you can have the tank under close watch and do water changes whenever needed.

Correct. I've also doubled the dosage to 50 mg/gallon with good results.

The amount of cipro used can be based on the severity of the infection in my opinion I've seen anemones react poorly to cipro I'm sure in can cause some damage to the anemone so if a gig looks really good and I wan to just treat him just in case I'll use a half dosage for a week and I've had success but never lower a dosage while treating you can increase but dosing a certain amount and then lowering can cause mutations in the bacteria

Especially magnifica I've actually found cipro to make my new mags look like crap for at least 2/3 days into the treatment I don't know why but even healthy ones go from inflated to a pancake when inteoduced to the cipro maybe they since the new water and want to deflate and take in the new water but I don't think that should take 2-3 days maybe one day but it's just what I've observed these last few weeks of collecting magnifica anemones

I treat or I don't treat with antibiotics, but I would never treat with a lower dosage as recommended by a medical professional as a lower dosage may not kill, but just immunize the pathogens to the antibiotic.
I also have not seen any negative reaction of anemones to Cipro, but rather the opposite. In my experience Septra is the antibiotic anemones react not so good to.

Yeah I stopped using Sentra after the first time I used it I found amoxicillin to be the least damaging to the magnificas

Also where you get him from?

I got from De Jong Marine Life

That one looks bad.
You should install a skimmer or do more frequent water changes. A skimmer often worked wonders for me.
With the little one I'm treating right now I can't use a skimmer due to the small size of the tank. I rather have to rely on 100% water changes whenever the water looks cloudy or the anemone looks bad. After a water change it has so far always come back.

My corncern with the skimmer is that maybe it can remove some medication

A bit late here, but isn't 3 mg / gal of Ciprofloxacin an incorrect dosage? It should be 25 mg / gal at standard dosage, correct?

Sorry, it is 50 mg/gal the current cypro concentration

These are today photos, not looking very good:

I have just done the daily water change, The new water was 1ร‚ยบ celsius degrre below the HT water. The response was a bit better, but not significative:

ร‚ยฟHow many days normaly are needed to see a certain improvement?

At which point you see improvement really depends on how sick the anemone is. Usually I've had them fairly stable by day 5.

As for the skimmer, I don't think it removes Cipro. Also, Cipro won't last long while the light is on anyway. That's why it's best to add it only after the lights are out.

Best I can say is keep up with water changes and make the flow hit him good! And best of luck remember he's not dead until he melts

I have not owned a Gig or a Mag, but from what I read around here and know about bacterial infections:

If all else fails and he continues to get worse, as a last resort, drop the temperature gradually from the current temperature to 2-2.5 degrees celsius below what he is now. This should slow the bacterial infection's rate of reproduction, and if you continue to dose ciprofloxacin at night, perhaps there is a chance of a turnaround. Whatever you choose to do, I hope it survives, its a beautiful specimen :)

Is he looking better at all today maybe do water changes every 12 hours instead of 24 I really want to see this gig pull through!

Thanks for the advice but it is not possible for me due to my working schedule

Anyway, some pics from today, looking better but mouth still opened

And a video:

I think I am going to redirect the PH for him to receive more flow. The base is more or less attached to the white plastic net

Okay awesome he seems to be doing better keep us posted that's an awesome gig!

Looks like he's over the hump now. Keep up the dosing and the water changes.

My little tan from LA seems to have stabilized now as it didn't deflate or spoil the water yesterday.
Two more doses before the treatment is done.
This was the first time I treated a gig in just a 2 gallon tank and it seems to work well with small individuals and when you can monitor the tank closely. It definitely makes water changes and tank cleaning easier.
