I have the 250W Phoenix on a PFO magnetic ballast and was looking at the AB 10k. Anyone have experience with these two? Preferences?
good idea<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=8895471#post8895471 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by gcarroll
The Phoenix bulb may loose intensity after 6 months or so but I have not experienced much of a difference. Mine are about 8 months old and my colors are just fine. I run the Phoenix for one year before replacing. I just bump up the photo-period another hour to 8 hrs per day to compensate for the loss of intensity. Either way even with the reduction of intensity it never falls even remotely as low as a new XM 20K.

Have never used the phoenix bulbs, but I love the AB 10k. Nice white, with a tint of blue. More blue than the Ushios and XM's I have used.

What ballast are you using. I have AB 10K on my AquaMedic magnetic HQI ballast, and I would say there is NO blue. Its white, in fact I would say there's a warmth to the look that verges on a bit of yellow. I think it looks good, like bright sunlight, however I think my corals tend to wash out a bit more than I would like. Part of the issue may be my fixture has 4x250W HQI and 4x39W Ocean Blues, and the T5s are just completely overpowered by the 4 HQI. I'm probably going to give the Phoenix bulbs a shot when the ABs time is up (a couple months probably).

i have the ushio 20ks and like them allot i think they are the perfect color my LFS says they look a lil purple i think we should all remember that men see color very differently and we are all a lil colorblind
Sanjay has tested the Phoenix 14K.<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=8936263#post8936263 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by LBCBJ
I use the Phoenix and love the color and intensity, it's a great bulb (although it's oddly cheap) There seems to be a lack of information on them though. For one, does anyone know what company actually makes the Phoenix bulbs (more detail than "some company in Japan")? Second, why do they only make one kelvin color bulb, the 14k..seems a little strange. Thirdly, has anyone ever noticed color shifts from blue to yellow on a day-to-day basis? And lastly, I think we all need to petition for Sanjay to test the bulb
